I don't know, I wonder how much of Mist Continent society is just the monsters going along with it for their own reasons. i.e. the monsters in the other two factions let The Land of Four Souls operate as it does because one (Land of Four Gods) has no interest in conquering, and the other (Land of Four Fiends) finds the Land of Four Souls a great renewable source of husbands.

And as for the monsters who live in the Land of Four Souls, they seem to be the more passive sort who are fine with the humans being higher ranked so long as they get the love and essence they want out of the relationship.

After all, for all their talk of human domination even the Land of Four Souls owes some of its power to the god-like monsters that bless their xian (incubi) with their power. Tellingly these humans seem to recognize the contradiction, in that they have decided those monsters are gods rather than monsters (and thus they can keep teaching that humans are higher than monsters).
