Twas on a cold December day
I found myself upon the shore
The sea from whence I did crawl out
With clothes and breath but nothing more

To look across the endless waves
A decade since, and so unkind
To be so close and yet so far
From that which I had left behind

When lo behold! What scuttles so?
I see the shine beneath the blue
Then sideways through the breaking foam
The grandest crab I ever knew

Adorned with gold and silver how!
A crown atop his mighty shell
With chains and rings for all to see
And captivate under his spell

Oh crab most fine! I bow to thee,
Crustacean King so bright!
What Kingdom must you rule beneath
The depths untouched by light

The crab spoke thus, my fellow sir!
Please kneel not as I pass!
A king? Oh no, it is not so
In fact I am but middle class!

My land and home so far below
Is filled with things as these
From those on land with luck so poor
Who dare take to the seas

I come ashore but one a year
To pay my due respect
To sailors and their sunken ships
Whose treasures I collect

So take my boy, this sovereign bright
And dwell not on the memory
Of that which you have sorely lost
Which lies so deep beneath the sea.

Hey guys, just a quick question, Im pretty new to everything. Due to reasons, I have to live in Europe for the next few years. However, I heard that the PM market over there is pretty bad with high VAT and everything.

If I was to buy everything I was thinking of in the US before I leave, what are the chances of getting into trouble with customs? Ive searched alot about this and every customs website and travel forum gives you a half assed answer on this.
Is the face value of the coins what is considered as monetary value when taking the money limit into account? Or is it the metal? Also, do you think I would get in trouble over a 10oz silver bar with no "Legal tender" value? Do I have to declare anything? I dont feel like showiing anything to anybody much less airport people

>PM market over there is pretty bad with high VAT and everything
It depends on the country, Poland has 23% VAT while Germany has 19% VAT, but also in some cases you don't pay it all when buying precious metals.
When it comes to silver coins/bars/silverware etc. you will need to pay it in most of European countries, but you don't have to, if you are going to live in EU.
Buying silver in Estonia (where silver is free of VAT) is cheaper, but not always, it's about 4 dollars less and it's worth it, if you are buying 100 oz.
Some dealers buy their coins in Estonia and then will be able to ship it to you, if you live in a country that is a member of an European Union, you won't pay anything this way.
When it comes to Gold, it's pretty much always free of VAT and other tax, but there is other problem, you have to register it by showing your ID (yes, we have those).
Other things are maybe the same, dunno.
>trouble
High, Europeans treat things very seriously and, if it's of high value and you don't have any proof that it's yours then you can be accused of smuggling / theft or deported.
Do you have an receipt or anything like this? I'm sure that it's about metal not the face value. I found something about 700g of metal allowed.

It's a stamp of provenance and a form of assay. It's a way to assure stakeholders that the object is a standard and vetted piece of metal.
One recent oddity was when the 1kg Queen's Beast Completer had a larger face value than the metal content. Someone tested the bank by trying to cash it in (for paper, I assume), and was refused.

That's Interesting. I once read that a long time ago, in the early days of the U.S, seigniorage was a privilege, with far more purchasing power than the raw specie. So in order to compel people to increase the amount of coins in circulation, you could have your gold minted into coins with a higher dollar value, and returned to you for free, except for the small handling charge. You know what's speculative? The paper market, that's what. And that market will be coming to an end one way or another. Especially now that the BRICS are setting up their own LBMA competitor.
Of course the USD and EUR are also going to be coming to an end as well, and it won't much matter if you invested in silver or gold, so long as you didn't leave your savings in worthless fiat.

Not technically in the EU, but the UK has those kind of laws. And it looks like companies based in the UK also must abide by those laws even when selling to outsiders. For example, look at the FAQ stuff posted on chards and bullionbypost.
And it's a bit comical from my pov, because it says they might sometimes request documents co-signed by "persons of authority", including not only notaries (the one I'd expect for legally-binding documents), but optionally doctors, policemen, and even schoolteachers. So just write any old thing and have it signed by any kindergarten teacher, and Bob's your uncle.

>but the UK has those kind of laws.

Yes, but there's some nuance to this. It only applies to businesses such as selling to jewelry stores. If you're buying over £10,000 of precious metals for the year, the coin shop has to inform the state of that transaction. My speculation is that this is to help prevent and suppress money laundering as well as stopping pretty thieves stealing and selling metals. I remember way back in the 90's that you could easily sell scrap copper and lead without being asked for checks. Now, everything is recorded. AFAIK this system doesn't apply to private sellers, but I don't imagine you would come across many people here who would have a hundred grand in fiat on hand to do such a transaction.

Eh, 10K/year isn't much at all when it comes to PMs. I spent that much tonight on just a monster box and a few other kilos. So it's basically just an extra bureaucratic hassle for anyone that's buying faster than onesies and twosies. And it's redudant because your bank already has done all those identity checks before granting you an account. So basically that law is saying "no the bank's word isn't good enough, but a schoolteacher is fine".
As far as fiat goes, 100K isn't that much unless you're talking actual cash in hand. A lot of people my age have way more money than that in their accounts.
BTW for those who use them, there are some PM dealers in the EU who accept crypto and even cash payment. You'll find them easily in the OP pastebin.

Gonna need more than 2 weeks to finish stacking. Maybe I can pull it off in 2 months, but even that will be tight. I was hoping they would keep shit going somewhat normally until the US midterms are over at least.
Also I don't think it's really in their interest to crash the system, but rather keep chipping away at everyone's savings via heavy sustained inflation as they've been doing. Their great reset roadmap goes all the way to 2030, so that's plenty of time to turn all the lower and middle class into nothing-owning, bug-eating, happy motherfuckers. 'Course maybe the russians forced their hands somewhat and collapsed that timeline

annual production of silver is ~1 billion oz. That means if you had 1000oz, you would need to x1000, and then x1000 again to get to 1 billion oz. AKA you have 1 millionth of the supply for that year.

However with platinum the production is like 720k a year, which means just buying 1 platinum oz gives you 1 720,000th of the supply instead of having to buy 1000oz of silver for a measly 1 millionth of the supply.

Just something to keep in mind u dumbass reddit silverbacks

Platinum production is more like 7 million oz per year. Which means that you would have to buy 7oz plat (~7000$) to own 1 millionth of the annual supply vs 1000oz silver (22000$?). Still a better buy by a factor of 3.

Friends,

I'm off of work today, the weather is shitty, and I'm bored. I wanna create more OC to help with the cause. Something I've wanted to do for a while is make another version of that image (that I don't have saved) depicting how the cost of a Corvette in the 50's and a modern Corvette are the same in silver - only I want to do it with some good(s) or service(s) from ancient Rome vs. today. Picrel is some of my previous work, not the most efficient OC but it's informative and I'm proud of it

Problem is that most data on the price of goods in Rome points back towards Diocletian's Edicts, which were issued during well into the Empire's decline and a period of inflation, and were basically ignored anyway. I want to make comparisons to prices during the late Republic / early Empire (as close as possible to the life of Caesar). I'm particularly interested in the prices of goods that more or less translate directly to modern times. For example I like the one about the cost of whores, but that was a far more common """"job""""" back then when women weren't a part of the work force compared to now so I don't think a direct comparison works perfectly. I'd like data on straightforward things like houses / apartments, food, clothing, land, etc.

But I need decent sources to make the whole thing solid. I'm gonna do my research too but if any of you have good sources point em my way. Thanks friends

24.44 (in any quantity less than 500)
11754 monster box (23.51/oz)
Their britannias were actually a bit cheaper but not by 30-50%:
24.44 (Q < 500)
11696 monster box (23.39/oz)
And yeah the gold elephants are expensive, but the silver ones are ok (2022 at least, older ones get expensive).

I hit the goal I set for myself for the year of getting 5 oz in gold but I think it will be a long while before I will be able to buy any more metal, which sucks because I actually enjoy it on a hobby level in a way.

It's just I realized I probably need a bit more in the bank just in case I ever get the chance at a good value property and need a down payment.
But also because I think it's finally time I get some sort of moterized personal transport. I have been saving money like mad for the past few years, and part of that was taking the bus and biking everywhere, but not having something like a car is stifilling my income potential and making it harder to aquire new skills or network.
It also drains time from my life since my commutes can be quite long.
Since I don't want it to effect my savings, I will instead transition the money I would have saved towards my next gold acquisition to a vehicle fund for the next few months.
If the premiums weren't so out of control on silver I would start collecting that again just to scratch the itch, but it just doesn't make financial sense right now. $16.28 premium on a silver eagle is unacceptable to me. It's getting close to 40% of the cost of the coin.

I mean thats it.... thats all you fuckers have!?
wouldnt it have made more sense to take that $1000 to $3000 and create an income generating endevour so you COULD buy globs more silver if you wanted to?

if silver was so important then should you be trying to get your hands on mountains more

Infographicanon again here. I've got some good data but I've run into a problem. My source uses the measurement of liters for wheat, which I need to convert into modern bushels that are used in commodities training, and then pounds. But isn't a liter a unit of volume, and pounds mass? How do I convert that? I found some calculators but the results vary too much, one claims that 38.8 liters is 85 pounds, another says 65.

Two things your text ignores are
- the rate of silver production over time. One estimate has production at a global average of 7M ozt during ancient times. 2021 saw a yield of 822 M ozt - 117x the rate.
- the costs of extraction, refining, and creating final product (coins, bars...).

https://digital.library.unt.edu/ark:/67531/metadc40312/m1/1/?q=summarized%20data%20of%20silver%20production

https://www.silverinstitute.org/silver-mining-history/

Gist: it's just far less expensive to extract the metal in vastly higher volumes, thereby increasing the supply at a much lower cost. Silver simply isn't worth as much now as it was in ancient times.

I think it offsets the dramatic decrease in ore quality tho. If you read about the San Fran Gold rush for example, people could walk along streams and pick out 15 gram nuggets by hand visible to the naked eye. Fast forward 150 years later and most of the productive areas have been worked down to bedrock. It would be interesting to find some ancient texts or scrolls describing silver refining to know what % ore they were working with.

I'm a 141 ounce stacklet, but in spite of that, when you factor in the gold and other metals I hold piecemeal, I could pay the annual .16 silver allowances of a thousand people. There's heaps of redditors on WSS with 1500+ oz stacks that could pay the allowances of ten thousand people. If the government wants enough silver back from stackers to either re-issue it as currency directly or as a backing for certificates, they'll have to make it worth everyone's while, or else I'm going to take my stack out on my friend's boat one of these days.

Historical ratios of Gold:Silver price show that you can either have 1 ounce of gold or like, 70-90 ounces of silver. Historically the ratio is like 16:1 and mining production is like, 8:1 nowadays. Swapping silver into gold when the ratio reverses is something people sometimes do, and a couple times in history the Dow:gold ratio has hit 1:1. Oh damn, no idea where he pulled that shit from but he's remarkably incorrect. 6 obols per drachm not 7, and yes 4 drachms in a tetradrachm but never was a 16-17g chunky silver tetradrachm worth a 3-4g denarius. They are saying historically 16oz of silver equaled 1oz of gold. Im going to round for simplicity so don't kill me, but Currently 1 oz of silver is 20 bucks and gold is 1740 an oz that means 87 ozs of silver is the same as 1oz of gold. So if you had a large stack of silver and the prices went back to historical ratios you could use your silver to buy much more gold than you could with the current ratios.
