my quake 2 is broken now and i cant seem to fix it, even on a fresh install
its just horribly bugged out on the screen, its like the id logo is stretched out and when i try to do something its invisible and then the screen glitches out

The monsters in Combined_Harms are mostly the same, they're just a little more aggressive and they all have extra attacks.
Zombiemen have a three round burst shot
Shotgunners can do a huge shell cram shotgun blast like the whiplash shotgun from Combined_Arms
Chaingunners shoot big shells that inflict knockback and then blow up later
Imps can throw arcing fireballs that travel through other imps.

We got our first newbie going from zero to finish in just two days! you don't even need to be a neet and map straight for 24 hours, since you got plenty of time, just set your goals to something reasonable, don't try to make the next behemoth map straight out of Arcane Dimensions, set your sights in a short-medium map.
Need inspiration on how to make something bite sized and fun? check out coffee quake.

TrenchBroom is surprisingly easy to pick up, and you can get plenty of help in places where Quake mappers hang out like func_msgb, or this very thread (though most of us are also newbies), don't be afraid to post your progress!

There's some great maps and some truly dogshit maps, like it typically is with CMP's. However unlike usual there's a hub map and you have to finish maps to open up new areas. So I would suggest just noclipping to the end of the really bad maps so you can get to the good stuff.

Heretic did have vertical freelook. Not with the mouse, but there were keyboard binds to look up and down. A lot of the inaccuracies in GZDoom's emulation of Doom actually stem from replicating features of Heretic. Heretic was the game to fix infinite actor height and it also added the "stealth" effect to the blursphere, where enemies won't notice you if you move slowly enough. Why the compatflags for those don't default to off when playing Doom is beyond me.

Not really. Closer to an engine like Source, really. Basically zero game engines rely so heavily on brushes these days, usually there's a bare groundwork of actual terrain at most and everything else is actual 3d models and assets imported on the fly.

Im using Doom RPG Se with all the compatible mods and oblige.
Is there an option to up the enemy variety? I only get like 5 in total with a miniboss every 15 levels which is far too rare. I once opened a spcial event gold box and was greeted with, im not shitting you at least 8 new enemy types, like flying angles and shit, i havent seen before if not more. Please tell how to spawn them, im sick and tired of shooting the same 5 in the past 5+ hours.

Move the door lower so it doesn't perfectly line up with the ground. What you're seeing is Z-fighting from the two surfaces fighting for visibility; this wasn't a problem in DOS Quake because it always forced worldspawn faces to take precedence over brush entities, but GLQuake ports follow standard sorting rules so you get Z-fighting.

Oh. If you mean the xyz axes always present at 0,0,0 you can ignore those. I mean don't let the faces of individual brushes overlap if it's gonna be something the player can see. Worldspawn with worldspawn is fine because everything outside the play area is automatically clipped away, but basically just lower your door a few units so it slides under the surface instead of into it.

Make it a func_door_secret, then. Those doors specifically have two movement directions- back and sideways instead of just sideways- so they can blend in with the environment and then retract. Easiest place to spot this is the Super Shotgun in E1M1.

My opinion is more about the genuine achievement earned by retro FPS, on the grounds of the technical boundaries that the devs had to work around at the time, while still covering new grounds with said newfangled tech. modern attempts that shoot to recreate that same feel come off as unnecessary to me. most of the time they don't even wane off to come up with new mechanics or interesting gameplay bits to make up for it, they're essentially more of what we already had except they're trying to look less insultingly bad than something like Warlock.

AD works for me because it adds to a pre-existing thing instead of something tangentially related to it, stays in line with the old gameplay style, and the new features are like a natural evolution of Quake's level design and progression. some things can be a bit hit or miss but it fares spectacularly at being 'more Quake', not something that attempts to relive the era it hailed from without really doing anything worth shelling out 15 bucks for.

Former Skulltag lead dev Carnevil made his own game in Wrack.
Some faux-retro FPS games might hire some, don't know about any though.

I've upgraded from GTX 660ti to GTX1080ti and saw a only 3-5% increase in FPS in GZDoom (in other games increase is about 300% - latest AC went from 15-20 fps to 55-60)
Rendering is not very taxing on GZDoom unless you are talking thousands of particle effects with post processing and x8 antialiasing.
Interpreting decorate/zscript of all the actors, effects, thinkers etc is what takes most of the performance and it's not offloaded to GPU.

Haven't played Amid Evil but I just finished Dusk and one of my main complaints is that that game did NOTHING to make the bosses better from the games it was based off of. 20 fucking years of game design advancement and besides the final boss every one of them was just a circle strafe fest. If you're going to do a "Throwback" game you should at least address some of the core problems the genre had and I feel like Dusk didn't do shit to improve on the formula. In fact in terms of enemy design it was just a worse version of Quake 1 in my opinion. It was a neat game but I doubt I'll ever go back to it because I'd rather just play a Quake mod or something. Also people can shit on Doom 4 all they want for the shitty level design but that game had GREAT bosses in comparison to what I've played so far from 90's shooters.

Give them multiple attacks that require more than just running in circles. For example in Doom 4's cyber demon fight he has

I just played through Blood+Cryptic Passage+Post Mortem on Lightly Broiled. Episode 4 is alright - the first level is pretty fun, level three is a bit labyrinthine. Ganglion Depths is a real motherfucker, but the level after is a bit easier. Cryptic Passage is okay.
