I got a problem with how TSP handles shotgun ammo.

The shared ammo pool with the shotgun sounds neat on paper but it's a nightmare to manage when you actually try it, I keep ending up with too many buckshot or too many poison and I'm stuck for the next minute or so trying to empty it out so I got room for other shells. I think it's better off with just 4 separate pools.

I actually find poison shells going away pretty quickly, but that's because I just gas an entire area when I start using them.

Four separate ammo pools sounds like it'd just make things more restricted, I like the ammo management aspect of it as it stands, but I'm always open to feedback. Remember that shells are really common drops because they're replacing several different ammo drops that won't exist once we get further in development.

Shotgun: Added "drop current shells" (default bind p) which drops all shells of the currently selected type from the player, or a shell type in order of buckshot->shock->hellfire->poison if a shell type is not currently selected.

Fist/General: Added melee quick switch button (default unbound) which switches to melee if a weapon other than melee is selected or the last weapon selected if currently using melee.

okay, that's bad enough in its own right, but:

If I was an avid BD player, I'd be fucking pissed - but given the fact that I'm not, it's just a fucking hilarious display of poor judgement. Yes, making a somewhat interesting chainsaw alt-fire was a step in the right direction - caking on all this other shit, however, is like the equivalent of doing a reverse 500 yard dash straight into a pit of nukage, spikes, and terrywads.

But real talk here:
Honestly, I think part of the problem is Mark's direction. Given his current stance in the community and his rather limited access to new graphical assets, pushing for this semi-realistic tone he says he's been aiming for not only feels inconsistent with a lot of existing material in the mod, but also ends up being a rather unrealistic goal given his available material.

The truth is, if he'd stuck with and/or returned to his more intentionally-over-the-top direction that he had in the earlier stages of development, he'd be far more equipped for that kind of tone and gameplay.

Hell, it honestly wouldn't even take much to return to that tone either - it's not like he'd have to change the gib physics/body physics back or anything - but the sprite assets that has built up over the years of the mod's development will simply never be really suited for a 'realistic' tone. In the end, it's better just to run with what you got.

So I got bored editing Mel's mugshots and pretending to work on the twin pistols (teehee) and decided to redesign Mel. Up until this point she's been pretty much a blue Ada Wong with scars and an eyepatch, but I took some inspiration from Slax's fanart and decided to go for a more armored, futuristic look. I also wanted to have traces of the old design so I didn't have to redo any of her player sprites much. The idea is to have this be what I would show someone when I commission some ORIGINAL art for her. The four side pics beside the main one are alternate skins which I plan on editing after I finish her player sprites. Neat.

Anyways, tell me what you think guys. Also, has anyone found themselves using the Robo voice set for Mel? Which do you prefer?

I'm playing BD:SE with some Oblige thrown in, and I immediately noticed that a good amount of wall textures flicker uncontrollably. Almost like it's broken textures or something.

Is it because of my GZDoom build? Or am I missing something here? Because this shit really agitates me when I'm trying to play. Kills the mood.

I really like that they kept the slaughter gameplay to a minimum, with there only ever being real slaughter segments in the secret map and the final map. The "hub" maps really added to the atmosphere and the feeling of actually going on a journey, which is something a lot of wads fail to do. The visuals are fantastic and some of the best I've seen in Doom, especially for a vanilla-compatible mapset. If I had to make a complaint, it'd be that there's just too many maps for one theme. They really start blending together after a while, but I think they're aware of that problem and E2 will be more varied.

Alright, so I'm on map 24 of Whispers of Satan, this area right here, need to get up to a switch to lower a blue skull key in another room. However that switch is out of reach, there was a switch below and in front of it, which I activated, releasing an archvile on me, now, naturally, my first instinct is to kill it... But there's no apparent way for me to access that switch now, was I meant to keep it alive so I could use it to jump me up to the switch?

I should probably give an idea of what you should do in the game:

-Use altfire to smell enemies. They are blue if idle, red if active, and bodies are gray for a short time after they die, this is to alert you to the fact that there may be gibs for you to nom up. Everytime you start a map, every vanilla doom 2 enemy type gets its own unique smellshape that it has throughout the whole map. This is so you can identify enemytypes by smell. It is not always easy to discern shape differences.

-Your ground bite is stealth. You can sneak up on fuckers and bite them. Zombies may or may not die in one hit.

-Jump and bite is a lunge. This is stronger but alerts enemies to your presence.

-Bind "Bark" and "Lick" in the controls menu. Barking alerts enemies to your presence for you (and will do more later, such as restore your Happiness when I implement Happiness), and licking heals your melee target ever-so-slightly.

Items spawn rarely. Smart usage of what you are given is the only way you can survive. Make sure you gobble up gibs dropped by enemies before they disappear. Bouncyball makes enemies angry at each other (because it's annoying), dog collar turns enemies on your side, and the Spirit of the Pack scares them away briefly.

That's a thought as well, though the psycho cannon hits really hard, and it's capable of destroying enemy projectiles, I think if I gave it any increased range it'd become EZ modo if a player got their mitts on it.

I think I'll just let players be able to fire off psycho cannon shots even when they have the sword powered up, make it a fairly straight forward but powerful subweapon.
