Do you play video games often? I ask as i think this tendency might be a learned habit from that. In vidya you learn to min/max, try for absolute optimal outcome as there is no real penalty for doing so other than loss of your time. I had to break this habit myself when i was learning to trade. Basic TA can help you with this. Something really simple like the Rate of Change indicator; buy signal is when line crosses zero to positive side, sell when line crosses zero to negative. It's not an amazong indicator but it will give you an idea of the general areas consistent buying and selling should be happening.

Never gonna buy the absolute bottom, never gonna sell absolute top. It would have to be a total fluke, twice, for you to do so.

Watching a video from a very popular prop firm and the guy narrating is talking about how they're long like 3,000 shares on this trade he's talking about and how he pieced in at 1,000 share clips at a time, but the order window has him long at literally 10 shares and I've made trades similar to this before and there is no fucking way you could casually get filled at 3,000 shares.

I feel like I should get into the education space and instead of saying I'm trading 200-500 shares at a time just lie and say I'm trading 2000-5000 and multiple my P&L by 10x as well. I've done trades like this and when you go to take the offer on 500 shares you don't get even remotely filled and you just end up as the new bid, let alone with 3,000.

I'm either completely missing something here or else holy shit what a scam. I've seen this happen in other videos too so I'm inclined to believe it's the latter.
>there, right there, see that??? I would have been long 10,000 shares right there before that big spike for an easy 15 cent scalp!
No you wouldn't have. At all. You would never have gotten filled on your entry and you sure as fuck wouldn't have been able to unload 10,000 shares at where you think you would.

unironically put 2 moving averages of different lengths on your chart and buy or sell when price gets between them depending on their configuration (whether the faster is above or below the slower). generally gives you the best risk, it's a "zone of value". if you buy close to the moving averages and price moves against you, they will flip negative relatively shortly and you won't lose that much as a result.

also the ROC indicator is trash but i like the way you're thinking in regards to actually learning TA to determine good entry points.

understand that TA is about conceptualizing what price has done in the past, and what it is currently doing. you don't predict, you assume that price will continue to act in that way until it doesn't. the "until it doesn't" is generally handled by having a stop loss, but it's highly likely that an indicator will flip the opposite way before you hit your stop loss which allows you to manage risk even better because many times you'll exit early and lose less than if you hit your stop loss. for this you have what is referred to as an "exit indicator": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1b3D1gNUyiw

Corona isn't the problem, it's the number of people out of work, the number of businesses that are closed, and he amount consumers are spending. It's expected that the market can rally on bad news if the news is better than the predictions already priced in, but that explanation stopped working when the rally continued.

Even if the economy opens back up, and also everyone immediately returns to their previous income and spending habits, the damage is already done. And not just damage from consumers and businesses, but also damage from new federal monetary policies. The best scenario for the new bull market is that we kicked the can down the road a few months.

I wouldn't say it's total trash but it is certainly mediocre. I like to suggest it for someone totally unfamiliar to indicators to look and see what it does as it's about as simple as indicators get. You look at the ROC and see spots where it could have been a lot better at its job than it was, go fish for different indicators, find some stuff that is a little or a lot better, test those, etc.

Well it might be a bit crazy tomorrow but here's what I think is going to happen.

Futures are going to pump overnight. Then market opens with a pump and shortly after like 10 minutes in there's a pump. The OPEC meeting in the morning will come after that with a huge pump. Then mid-day Mnuchin or Kudlow will come out and say some shit and the markets are gonna pump massively. In the afternoon Trump will have his press conference and markets are going to hate every word of it, so we'll see a gigantic 2-3% pump. This will all last until the final 10 minutes of trade and contrary to everyone's expectations it's going to PUMP hard.

even with high volatility the price generally has a direction. the secret to stock trading is that the game is REALLY just about how soon you can determine whether you're trending up/down or ranging/flat. you can generally tell this by the configuration and angle of the moving averages. the period of the MA's doesn't matter in the sense that a shorter time frame will give you smaller trends and a longer time frame will give you longer trends. their configuration determines whether you are in an uptrend or a downtrend, their angle determines whether those short and long term trends are flat or not, the distance between then determines momentum and therefore acceleration (i.e. if the MA's are expanding then the price action is accelerating in that direction, and if they are contracting then price is probably ranging. if price maintains the trend and starts expanding again, that was a pullback. if it goes far enough to cross the averages, that is a reversal).

if i can impart anything to you retards is that studying EMA's and price action is extremely lucrative. entering near the EMA's is generally going to give you the best risk to reward. even the most perfect high probability setup can fail, but it's not about 1 trade it's about 100 or 10000 trades.

the markets are not tied to the economy in an objective way. the markets are forward-looking, and price is based on speculation on what the majority of people BELIEVE the future will be. it's not about an objective measure of value but a subjective interpretation of what people THINK price will do. people include instituations, and even algos are developed with human reaction to events in mind, so it all equates to the same thing in the end. the reason why algos sell when there is bad news is because they assume people will read the bad news and sell too, so they're trying to get a head start on it. unfortunately that ends up being a self fulfilling prophecy, but the nice thing is that we the retail traders can capitalize on it if we are educated on the subject and have done extensive backtesting.

Peak virus? First off, "flattening" is still a daily increase in cases every day from the day before. Second, it is flattening due to no one working or going out to do stuff. Economy is at a standstill, Fed Minute report says the damage is going to be worse than ever anticipated, and if we end it too early we will spread the virus again. Peak doesn't mean shit when cases neither have dwindled nor people are projected to get back to work.
