You seem to misunderstand that "mashing" usually refers to doing so from an unfavorable position--during opponent's blockstrings or on wakeup (which you did quite a few times).

If you mean the ice grab, it's a strong part of her blockstring mixup.

Good games DaegorDude. Your Utsuho was too passive. I had too much time to space correctly and get you locked down in blockstrings.

I was getting pretty frustrated during those final rounds, even if I knew when you'd use that alt skill I could never react to it on time. Maybe it's because it's 2AM and I'm tired, or maybe my reflexes just suck, since I've had trouble against that skill many times before. Oh well.

Overall, you should block more, especially when you're in the corner. Try to look at openings in your opponent's attacks.

Memorization is mostly important to get your staple combos down. Because of that goddamned fucking invisible limit meter, at a certain point a falling enemy becomes immune to your attacks and a mistimed attack on your part (without realizing they're immune) and an air tech from your enemy can leave you open

Improvisation is a rather important skill for a handful of reasons:

A: All the different character matchups. Dealing with matchups you don't often play can be difficult unless you're good at improvisation

B: Unexpected counter hits and spacing issues can throw off your combos if you just keep inputting them like a robot. Part of maximizing damage from counter hit opportunities is based solely on your ability to improvise your combos on the fly, or have a VERY thorough knowledge of the game. This is compounded when you start getting into spell cards

All in all, it's one of those "easy to learn, hard to master" type games

>> No.5356259

The limit meter is quite visible. When you start a combo look to the top of the screen and it will have 1-???%, some moves actually make you go over the limit meter, but that will be your last move of the combo.

>> No.5356324

>>5356297

I don't think you understand what we mean. Although I am still unsure of the rules surrounding the invisible limit meter are, from what I've seen, after a certain amount of time of falling midair, an enemy becomes immune to your attacks. Every time you hit them in midair, the time it takes for them to become immune lessens. It is wholly unrelated to the normal 0-100% limit meter that, upon hitting 100+%, surrounds the enemy with a blue ring and prevents them from air teching, alongside the invincibility

tasofro games are kind of odd about sticks. Unless it has a digital-analogue toggle, like the Madcatz TE stick has, you will probably have to get yourself joy2key or xpadder and use the stick via it. The problem is that tasofro's games, for some reason, would prefer analogue input instead of digital, and in the cases of sticks, it will not read inputs from the stick itself normally, while the buttons will work. Unless your stick has something like the Madcatz TE stick's LS-DP-RS toggle, and you turn it to LS, anyway.

-block on wakeup. everytime I got the direction right you got hit by a full dialA.
-don't airtech all the time. Even if you feel safer up there, it's not.
-don't groundtech all the time. Gets predictable.
-don't mash A in my strings.
-be aware of graze attacks. I could just randomly throw them out and most of them hit.
-don't use her 236 for defense. It's slow and doesn't cover too much either.
-don't end your strings with 2C. It's really slow to jump cancel and has a huge delay.

You seem to know what you are doing in terms of combos and strings, so try out other stuff and you'll get better in no time.

The bubble still sucks after hundreds of buffs. If the opponent is inside the bubble, there's no reason to use projectiles anyway because they can just kick you in the face. The C version can help you avoid a royal flare on the ground or something but who uses it when you have the time/orbs to avoid it anyway?

If you were talking about the purple ones, you can set up some crazy attacks as okizeme. Watch some jap replays for that to understand how it works.

GGs Akagi, long time no see.
You should really settle for a safer playstyle, especially with Marisa, imo. Using options that are 50/50 "I hit or I get punished" is something you don't want to do that often, especially while you are pressing.

To be honest, I made "few mistakes" as you say because in a good part of our matches, all I had to do was to play very safely and wait for your dangerous moves to come out, block them, and punish them.
If you played a bit safer, I would have had to be more aggressive and use riskier approaches to get damage, but most of the time I just had to play safe. I'm mostly speaking about our Marisa/Meilin matches here, the Suika/Youmu ones were... well, I really don't get Suika at all.

There is a balance you have to find between attack and defence. People who block everything and don't use risky approaches are prone to undergo dangerous presses. People who are too aggressive, by that I mean overusing reversals and poking a lot into presses, can get seriously out-damaged if they are in a bad position.

So, I'd say, and of course it's easier said than done, try to play a bit more safe, and when you are under pressure, the main option has to be "how do I get out", not "how do I poke into his press". Only try to poke if you see that the press has important gaps.

I understand how you feel, but really, don't underestimate yourself. I'm obviously not telling you to analyse every movement and reaction of your opponent and then act. You just have to realize that you use options such as Marisa's 214 that are unsafe, and that's not a problem as long as you are able to sneak them where the opponent didn't wait for them.

Just try not to become too predictable, and use mind games at your advantage. Abuse 214 if your opponent never blocks them, and only use them parsimoniously if he tries to block them.

Good games Alice. Consider doing more than 5AAA(delay)A for Suika. No one is falling for that if you don't mixup your strings. Consider doing more than flying near the top and hoping to land j.A on the way down. Consider doing more than loliball spam all day. Consider not having a cheesy spellcard like Massacre on Mt.Ooe in your deck since it'll only work on people who don't know about it yet (Gathering Oni "Throwing Atlas" is a lot better). And finally, try blocking on wakeup, or at worst, graze instead of poking. All I had to do was some projectile attack out of your poke range like Cirno's 5C and you'd get hit. There's a lot of habits you need to overcome, but you'll be a lot better for it when that happens.

USB satapad (sega saturn pad), from e-bay. They're pretty much all fakes, however they tend to be good quality fakes, and at least in Europe they're around 20€. Probably something like $20 in the US, or so. Pretty much the best gamepad you can get for fightans.

Personally, I would say to use the dpad instead, but this is just me saying what I think. I've never heard of someone being really good at fightans and using the analogue stick on a gamepad instead of the dpad, but then again, I never looked for something like that. If you can get your execution for all the special motions (236, 623, 22, 214, 421), as well as double tapped airdashes, to work out notably better on the analogue than the dpad, then use that instead. If not, then just go with the dpad.

Why don't you use numbers instead of u, d, l, r? Pretty much the same reason we use numbers instead, most likely. We're just used to it, and the rest of the players for this game use numpad notation as well, and it's not like it's hard to understand once you're used to it.

>>5359749
It could be, it could not be. A major thing is how accurate and precise the dpad is, which the satapad has in spades.

>>5359784
In the case when u, d, l, r are used, they tend to use qcf, qcb, dp, and so on for special motions. Short for quarter-circle forward, quarter-circle back, dragon punch. Occasionally dp is dpm, dragon punch motion. There's more, but those are pretty much the only relevant ones, in this case.

Well, in practice mode, your opponent doesn't even move, so you won't learn much, contrary to arcade mode where at least the opponent moves.

>> No.5362196

>>5362157
That's enough to train comboes and get the basic muscular memory. I think that you get more bad habits than you learn good ones by playing the AI, too.
Story mode is another ...story; you can't really get bad habits from it because it's so different from arcade mode/netplay. Plus it makes you learn how to move, and that's as much important as execution.
But really, getting his ass kicked in netplay is the best.

Good ones! Your marisa is interesting, but im not gutsy enough to try your tricks since i know they would fail against higher players. What i saw wrong was you kept running yourself into the corner and playing a projectile game, which only works against AI. Other then that, add more anti-air spellcards in your deck, escape velocity, final spark are pretty good.

I think my problem is that I suck.
I can never pull off spellcards, so I stack my decks with Defense+Speed up cards and the cards for special moves I know I can pull off, with one or two spells in there just in case. Good or bad?
Youmu seems to be the best up close attacker which I spend most of my time doing. Right choice?

I don't play Youmu very well, she is my worst character. Patchouli is way on the projectile side, while Youmu is way on the melee side imo, but i've seen amazing players for all characters. Just practice the simple combo to spellcard, preferable the sword moves. Power up cards are weak outside of story mode, by the time you get anything to max you'll be in the second match, so drop them for a few bombs and counter system cards. You wasted your spirit on projectiles that can be easily grazed, for Youmu projectiles are weak.

If you do want to stick with Youmu, she is pretty powerful.

If you use keyboard, put the keys right so you have easy access to spellcard usage and flipping through them.

Wrong. As far as I'm aware, there's pretty much just as many keyboard players as there are those who play with a gamepad in #hisouten. And, no, the ones who play with a gamepad tend to not be better on keyboard.
There's also the odd stick user, but they're less frequent.
All three (keyboard, gamepad, stick) are equally viable for being good at this game, it just depends on personal preferences as well as what you're more used to from playing other games.
