Bat?

Werebats are underated. The cave darkness is almost as much of sensory deprivation as a blindfold. Also, they are cute and fluffy and probably like hugging and lots of close contact.

Alongside Owl Mage, I feel they are severely underrated and get way too little art

Some more general art would be just fine too

>Pass through an MG town during the day
>Local holstaurs peddle the haul of their crops in the market district
>Armored centaurs patrol the streets with sharp, strict eyes
>Mobs of wererabbit children form roaming bands of happily chattering units all engaged in tag, hide and seek, or whatever bit of 'make-believe' was on the menu for today
>Harpy couriers flit to and fro through the air on their daily rounds
>There are two magic/sundry shops directly across from one another. One, an extravagant shop called the Esoteric Riddle, is open for business with a catty Lamia behind the counter, is open for business. The other, a more humble place with a sign reading Sticks and Stones, is strangely closed.
>The place is pleasant and friendly, but a bit overwhelming what with all the noise and residents

>Several days later you pass through the same town approaching 2:00 in the morning.
>To your surprise, nothing is quieter. The hustle and bustle haven't died out one bit.
>The streetlamps glow with a dim, mystical light. It's a tad hard for you to see at first but your eyesight adjusts quickly.
>The farmer's market is still active. Instead of holstaurs selling apples and carrots it's trolls selling mushrooms and root vegetables
>No centaurs, but plenty of werecats in lighter armor armed with short swords. A couple of big, bulky minotaurs guard the main gates but it's obvious that they're not enjoying the night shift, complaining between themselves and frequently yawning.
>Large mouse children scurry here and there making innocent mischief or playing games like 'dragons and hoard thieves'. One girl gets to be the 'dragon' while the other players try to snatch from her 'hoard' (a big pile of acorns they found) without being caught
>The sky is abuzz with werebat couriers on their nightly rounds
>The Esoteric Riddle is closed. Sticks and Stones, however, is open for business with a stoic Owlmage perched (literally) behind the counter

Towns that are 50/50 between being diurnal and nocturnal would be neat.

For some reason girls whose hair usually obscures their eyes completely drive me nuts.
Hell if I could tell you what about it makes it so great though.

I feel like I can blame Noodle for giving me this one.

>werebats
>werewolves
>hellhounds
>gargyoles
>cursed swords
>living armor (unless living armors are actually undead... hmmm...)
>dark mages
>dark matter
>dark priests
>dark slimes
>dhamphir
>devil bugs (they ARE attracted to ruin, rot, and decay; being cockroaches and all)
>giant mouse (same logic as roaches, would probably some sort of 'giant rat' variant)
>dryads (only, they'd dwell inside big spooky trees and probably be pretty spooky themselves)
>Oomukade (centipedes are creepy crawly, and live in rotting logs and such so... maybe?)
>Nightmare
>Night Gaunt
>Myconid
>Kitsune-tsuki (since Kitsune-bi are ghosts that possess people, obviously Kitsune-tsuki would be in undead realms that have Kitsune-bi as well)
>possibly lamia, harpy, river/lake mermaids, centaurs, succubi, baphs/witches, alruane, and similar metropolian species; only they might have a more undead or spooky theme to them

This makes me thing of what we're missing to make it a true classic gothic horror setting.
>no gravedigger-esque or igor-esque "henchmen of liches, vampires, etc who are always willing to get their hands dirty for their immortal masters" type monster girl
>no true Frankenstein's monster, who is not just some zombie made of body parts but a deeply philosophical and melancholy soul who is often able to properly articulate her musings about the nature of humanity and monsters
>no Jekyll and Hyde type monster girl
>no creature from the black lagoon girl
>no "invisilbe man" girl (KC could draw a ghostly image of what she looked like, and the gimmick could be that she's a nudist who enjoys pulling pranks and can be seen only when making love for reproductive purposes in the moonlight, or something similarly sappy)
