Can do. Also, there's an unfinished scenario in there I discovered as a landscape file called Rift. I have no idea if it was made by anyone here or if it's some random file accidentally added by the original uploader. It's too pretty to just delete, so if anyone wants to finish it, by all means.

I've cleared out the unrelated scenarios from the pack, as well as some tracks made by Fossil that shouldn't be in there, but I'm not sure if there are any more in there that weren't made by anons. There's a cluster of them in there that were made in 2009. Was there even an RCT general on 4chan during that time?

"Pine Tree Rag" and "Donut Dunes" wouldn't load for me, they're missing objects.

Ah, Donut Dunes has those Amazing Earl rides as well that don't save properly. I wish people would stop using those things in their scenarios. They're not even that good looking. Should probably just remove that file from the OP since they cause so many problems.

I'm not sure if I want to delete Pine Tree Rag yet, just in case someone comes along with the missing files.

Not sure if I want to get rid of those sandbox parks because I'm pretty sure they were made by someone here. But if no one objects, I suppose I could remove them since they're just boring flatlands. Atomik's Contest has buttloads of custom scenery.

They're quite different games but I find it kinda hard to imagine someone *couldn't* like RCT.

>> No.3037505

>>3037371
same level of comfy, but completely different games.

Rather than worrying about cargo efficiency and removing slowdowns from your mainline etc the biggest concerns in rct is jewing as much as you can from a single ride.

If you are the sort of OTTD player who takes their time and tries to get a self sufficient map-covering empire going, then you'll probably enjoy the business sim side of rct.

If you are the sort of OTTD player who uses combo prios, feeder lines, 8 way mainline/sidlines with fully efficient no slowdown hubs, and tries to make crazy junctions and unique transportation systems, you'll definitely enjoy the challenge RCT can offer (especially with custom content), and you'd probably really love the multiplayer in openRCT

If you are the sort of OTTD player who uses realistic train physics, starts his game at 1830, uses trams, industry replacement mods and realistic train progression sets, you probably have the sort of autism needed to make amazing, hyper realistic theme parks and rides using custom objects and game hacking to get the most out of the engine.

RCT's ride rating system means you can make stupidly unrealistic parks and rides if you want, or you can take your time and make something right out of a Six Flags park or your wildest imagination, and either way what you make will be functional in-game , be able to turn a profit, and will help you complete whatever the scenario objective is . Whether you spam path signals and use two way simple train lines with a terminus station at each end, or use block and pre signals to allow maximum efficiency on your fancy prioritised ro-ro with waiting bays and overflow escapes, you can still enjoy RCT

As far as I know, OpenRCT is technically doing no wrong as long as it requires the original game to run (they may have to stop making it work with the demo though). This might mean that they never get a mobile release, but it also presents an opportunity for them to share code with chris sawyer's team and possibly get a good chunk of OpenRCT's features implemented into the mobile release, assuming chris doesn't have some shitty agenda against OpenRCT

>> No.3039671

>>3039640
Supporting the files from the demo is more of a consequence of being an almost functionally identical clone of the original game. I don't think there's anything inherently illegal with that as long as the game isn't a direct copy.

As for sharing code with Chris I don't think he would want that. OpenRCT2 is GPLv3 licensed which prevents code sharing with proprietary software. Chris wouldn't be able to profit to the same extent since anyone with a compiler could build his game and then they would just need the assets. Chris would probably rather do it his own way anyhow.

The rest of the map is pretty plain, with a bunch of coasters with nice stats but mediocre scenery/looks

In the ride settings for go-karts you can turn off race mode so that peeps can always ride as soon as a kart finishes a lap. They only get one lap this way, but it cuts out wait-time in the queues and can potentially increase ride profits (more rides per hour). Most noticeably, it cuts out the free lap for the winner of the race.
Peeps love go-karts, even the pre-builts, but an insane track is a must because why not? They never crash.

The balloons won't really help with the goal of that park, but you can never have too many balloon stalls :)

Alright, updated the vpack once more. Here's what I've done with it over the last couple weeks:

Removed scenarios:
Lunatim's parks - Not 4chan-related. I've added these to a separate file and uploaded it to mediafire because his site seems to be down.
Fossil's parks - Not 4chan-related. Can be found on his site.
Thrill World - Not 4chan-related. Ugly flatland from 2003.
CrazyUs Mega Park - Not 4chan-related. Flat sandbox from 2002.
Cranberry Canyon - Carelessly designed and ugly scenario with a clusterfuck of land rights absent in several spots.
Scarborough Fair - Small sandbox grassland bloated with custom scenery. Nothing special. Removed to lower file size.
Atomik's 50x50 custom sandbox contest - Another small grassland sandbox bloated with custom scenery. Contest is over so there's no reason to keep it. Removed to lower file size.
Rolling Hills - Boring uninspired grassland with some pools of water. No money, no description, nothing to be researched, some custom garbage. Removed to lower file size.
Barren Desert - This is part of VJ's Scenario Pack, so it doesn't belong here.

Fixed/Edited Scenarios:
Water Temple - Removed buggy custom objects that wouldn't save with the scenario
Donut Dunes - Same as above
ALPHA EDEN - Guests were spawning in a corner of the map with no path. Moved spawn point to second park entrance.
A mountain with water and trees - Renamed to Echoing Woods as per the park's name.
Sandy Boxes - Changed objective to "Have Fun!"

Other:
Removed tracks made by Fossil, also found on his site.
Added jaSkyRdr.dat because it doesn't save properly with Rick and Morty's Futuristic Funland. For the sake of consistency I may decide to redo this scenario myself in the future, taking out and replacing this custom train type with its native counterpart.

to elaborate on this anon's point, for junior/kiddy/less intense coasters, 3-5 intensity is your goal. For medium, small or short coasters (Vekoma double corkscrews, mad mice etc) between 6-7 is usually a good range, you need a ride or two in this middle band or guests who come into the park as pussies will never work up the courage to ride your more intense rides.

Large woodies, B&M loopers, hypercoasters etc etc you can take the intensity all the way up to 10 before the excitement starts to drop drastically.

On more intense rides, you might notice a large gap between excitement and intensity, this is ok. small/medium intensity rides should really have a similar or greater excitement over intensity, but on rides with 8+ intensity, it's harder to keep that up.

On roller coasters, you never really want your intensity more than 2 (I'd say 2.5 is acceptable on intense rides like woodies and corkscrews, as long as the excitement rating is very high) units higher than your excitement, as lower than that indicates that you've got some strong g force spikes along the track.

Of course, if you don't give a shit about realism it is extremely easy to jew the system. As long as you are having fun and your rides are making money, it doesn't matter how unrealistic things look.

Keep in mind that the excitement rating determines how much you can charge for the ride (round down by 10c from the excitement rating for a guaranteed good price. non-tracked thrill rides scale max price by intensity, so you can charge a fuckload for launched freefalls). This is why anons will tell you to aim for E>I or the closest you can get, so you can reap in the most shekels possible. No point in opening a huge ride with something like 6/9/5 in the stats, because the ride time would be so long you wouldn't make much money out of it.

On CCM, from the 21 karts on my circuit, there where only about 8 karts running at any time. All others waiting in station and the queue always full and guests complaining.

Changed it to race with one lap and all karts run, queue moves faster and the winners lap lasts just ass long as the time it takes the other guests to get down and new ones to get up.

make the walls out of actual brick and use custom scenery land base blocks (you'd literally only need 1 or 2 quarter tile scenery pieces) to add the stone at the top so it has the appearance of raised land, while at the same time allowing the bricks to be on the inside of the wall so there can be bricks even on the sloped bits of land.

The same goes for those rooves, you could use custom scenery to have tile roof pieces with the red mine wall.

If you want to keep it all vanilla (which is of course understandable), use black wooden terrain walls for the castle foundation, and leave the brick walls at the height they are.

My favorite pathing bug is when handymen end up getting stuck in a ride's exit/queue path and they refuse to leave until you drag them out, causing the main paths to clutter up and your rating to drop.

Also, while playing this scenario, which is an entry to the contest that's going on (detailed here: >>3033874) had some weird shit going on with the researching, that being it would say that I researched things that I already had placed down in my park/had used. This is definitely the longest time I've ever spent making a scenario. 5 hours on the landscaping, 4 building the rides and 3 in playtesting. I'm assuming if I had OpenRCT2 it might have been a bit easier with the landscaping but everything was done manually.

If the objective of $60k in ride tickets sounds a bit much, keep in mind you have the biggest map available, a full tech tree and start with 7 coasters - 4 of which are a 4-way synced dueling design with an incorporated element. Of course they had to be Twisters because I don't know how to build anything else.

Have fun.

Have any of you rigorously studied woodie stats? For getting E = I, is there some number of total drops to exploit with target positive and negative vertical gs? Some ideal average speed and length? I've made dozens of woodies and have sense enough to get excitement within a point of intensity but I'd like to really push it, or at least figure out how to best reconcile aesthetics with stats.

Maybe just dump whatever woodie stats you have, though scenery would be an issue.

Spoilers so I don't ruin any magic.

Very unreliable rides:

reverse freefall coaster = 25
roto drop = 24
flying saucers = 32
compact inverted rollercoaster = 31 in reverse incline mode, 21 otherwise(apparently?)
air powered vertical coaster = 28
lim launched rollercoaster = 25

Just a thought, but why don't you guys try having a little competition to build a RollerCoaster (Or a flat ride with scenery if you really prefer), with the only condition being the coaster and everything for it must be self contained in a set area on the smaller side? Maybe with an exception for underground parts.

Most of the best coasters I've ever seen posted in this thread were stuff that was contained to a set area. and folded in on itself repeatedly, yet I don't remember you guys ever trying a competition like this one.

Why don't you make a Contest, then?

>> No.3074324

>>3074291
You ironed out the squares, which is good. I still see a lot of flat slopes that I would rough up though. My approach is to make the overall curve of the hills smooth and then to go over the flat slopes left by the hill tool tile by tile, leaving them not "bumpy" but smoothly "aliased" if that makes sense. This results in shallower slopes, though. Making steep slopes with vertical faces blended in takes a lot more work.

Maybe lower the sand at the beach by a level. The water is a bit too low I think. You may want to make the shoreline a little more straight. The sand in the ocean/sea water is a little too low also.

Hey /vr/ for the last few days i was hosting the /v/ server for OpenRCT2, now im not sure if any of you stopped by or not, but the past few days have been pretty damn fun and we did have a bunch of spectacular parks with very little memeing and fuckery. At first I tried to keep memeing and shitting up the park to a minimum but by the last day I stopped trying and caring.

I wish I had found out about OpenRCT2 earlier than just last week.

You guys should open a /vr/ server up for yourselves if you havent already. Gotta be a hell of a lot nicer then playing with /v/ and having multiple shitters try to ruin things everyday.

>> No.3076392

>>3076361
I'd really only play if I knew there were serious people in there trying to build a nice park or work towards an objective.
We tried a server like a week ago. It was fun with all of the fuckery and everything but it kindof got boring fast. I'll be down with a server with some moderation and auto-saving just in case we need to roll back the park.
