PATCH LINKS
Pokemon FireRed based: http://animackid.wordpress.com/category/touhou-puppet-play-enhanced/

Pokemon Emerald based: http://lkaexe.supersanctuary.net/thmnemer18/

The former has custom music/cries and a slightly modified script while the latter doesn't. The latter allows you to make use of branching evolutions at any point and I've heard good things about the difficulty. Pick your poison. If any complete(ish) 1.8 mods are missing post em.

FAQ
>These are obviously Pokemon mods with the Pokemon replaced with Touhou characters. What else is changed?
It should go without saying that all stats are customized and as a result far more balanced. In addition the typing system is also completely redone and more balanced as well. Move animations are unchanged but many moves and move names are different. Some hacks have custom music and cries. The games are generally more difficult. Despite this being gen 3 the attack/special split is present. Outside of that the maps are (mostly) the same and it's still Pokemon.

>How does evolution work?
Generally there will be a chibi form that evolves into the final form of the character. There are also alternate evolution paths accessed by stones. For instance CKeine evolves into Keine at level 28, but CKeine can also evolve into AKeine (as in Attack Keine) by using a Heart Stone(R) at any level. Alternate evolutions have different stats, learned moves, and often different types. Depending on the mod you may have to wait till you get the national dex before you can get alternate forms (exception being aforementioned Akeine).

>These Types are confusing!
Well yeah, they're completely different. Types who's names mirror Pokemon types are usually somewhat similar. Exceptions to this are the Dark and Steel types which are very different. To make things a bit easier just consider:
Nature = Grass
Wind = Electric
Earth = Ground
Miasma = Poison (but not as shitty)
Illusion = Normal (kinda)

>These moves are confusing!
Just because a move's name hasn't changed doesn't mean it's the same. They're usually changed in some way.

Any additions or corrections are welcome. Enjoy!

It's based on puppet play 1.5 so it's somewhat antiquated in comparison. But its a Wobb that can use a move that is basically Transform. [Changes everything to the targets, except sprite]

So it can run a set of like
Lefties, Max HP, w.e. Defensive spread
Counter
Mirror Coat
Recollection [Transform Clone]
Encore

Trivia: It can only get Recollection and Mirror shot by evolving from a cSatori, so if you run into a low level DSatori in the wild it will use struggle because it has no moves

EX Sariel, I think. those seem pretty minor anyhow.

>>9781627
The randomizer basically gives you the following options. [Only covering Emerald one because .jar one is a crock of shit for Romhacks]

- Randomize or pick starters [only out of the official ones at the time, if you want to pick starters/dummymon in slots unavailable to you you'd have to use A-starter]

- Randomize Trainers [I tend not to do this because it makes it a bit of a cake-walk when then the gym leader's Aces are replaced by weaklings with bad moves]

- Randomize Pokemon
= One to One
= Completely

One to One means means that all the tentacruel, seagulls, and zubats replacements in the world are static throughout the game, this means the rarity is also the same for like say, chimeco on the top of that ghostly mountain

Completely Random means that in every route every single encounter seed is replaced randomly.

So all those tentacruel swimming in route 101? surf in route 102 and there will be an entirely different bunch of touhous.

And now I remember why I stopped playing Pokemon in the first place.
Grinding Effort Value points is simply a horrendous and horrible mechanic. It takes ages and is incredibly monotone and boring. And if you don't do it perfectly you will have forever crippled your pokemon to never be able to reach its full potential.

Grinding EV is the worst possible thing aside from catching a couple of hundred pokemon to get some with optimal IV. Searching for IV at least doesn't feel as convoluted, and it's also something you can ignore and postpone without it limiting the growth of the pokemon you already have.

>> No.9783363

Really speedup is kind of a hack, it ruins the game audio, and would also rape the battery life of a portable. A better idea would be for one of those hacks to also speed up tedious things in the game like:
- Drastically shorten all those "enter and leave battle" animations as well as certain battle animations (for those with them turned on)
- Text and animations happen in parallel (mainly for battles)
- Text shows faster
- And fix the reason why they get so tedious by reducing the need to grind.

I feel the same way about EVs. I also try to play a little underleveled in order to make my EV stash from killing things not cause such a giant faceroll on later trainers.

You really don't need to EV train unless you plan on battling others or doing Frontier-like events. Except maybe for the Enhanced Red gauntlet, because your lead needs to be fat enough.

>>9783291
Forced shiny encounter codes work, but their nature is always set to.. Naughty, I think? The Zero forms you get in AW are shiny due to an ASM hack Ai implemented that allows you to generate shinies on a whim inside the scripts.

>>9782925
I -really- do not want to include custom music in Em since I like the default Em soundtrack far more than most of the Touhou remixes. That would be a far more elegant solution. In particular making things happen in parallel would be amazing. It's ridiculous that pretty much only one thing can happen at a time ever. I don't know shit about hacking though so who knows if it's even feasible.

Really the only reason I don't use speed-up more is because I like the tunes in the FireRed hack so much. It would be cool if there was a speed-up function that didn't affect BGM.

I'm really having fun playing PP enhanced, having to relearn all the types is refreshing. Yukari with metronome never ceases to amaze me, but other puppets also have their share of amazing moments. My CYuugi, caught in Yamame caves at level 29 and basically unused until that point scored the final blow on ninja gym leader's last Hina with a crit magnitude 9 (after his hinas 1-2shotted all my other puppets, including Yukari who didn't rest in time to avoid dying to self-destruct). Witnessing my poor underleveled Yuugi ko'ing a puppet 15 levels above was great.

Yukari got her big moment later on while fighting Yuugen, just as things started to look bleak, she sleep talk metronomed slack off twice which allowed her to survive three near-oneshots (first with rest), though leftovers helped here a bit. After that one or two psychic beam crits helped bring Yuungen into catchable state.

Pic related is probably my favourite matchup so far, Yukari's psychic beams do jackshit to komachi who keeps spamming Divide Pain anyway, so I have to use metronome constantly with hilarious results most of the time (Metronome Encored Komachi's Divide Pain while Yukari keeps resting and sleeptalking Metronome'd Splashes was pretty fun to watch).

Ah okay, thanks. Just found out about AKeine and I would be replacing my Momiji for it, just making sure it was worth it.

>> No.9809520

>>9809458
Momiji is really good too, it's a tough choice. Unlike AKeine she gets stat boosting moves like tailwind and swords dance later iirc. Also I imagine guts + rage would be fucking ridiculous. On the downside she doesn't get reliably powerful steel STAB I don't think. Blade flash is awesome though. Guess it comes down to which typing you value more/ what works with your party better.

Rage is good for killing something in the wild and facerolling a plot trainer with an auto +1 Momiji. If you're just going to smack something with it without switching out, it's better to just Tailwind.

Why does the THPP wiki call Byakuren Hijiri? I mean, I know it's her family name, but the emerald hack calls her Byakuren everywhere and so does the touhoudex section of touhouwiki.

well emulation in Wine on *nix systems isn't the best and to add to the problem, the save files my emulator on PSP makes are .svs files which cannot be used for loading the game in VBA-Link (requires .sg files) So, yeah, not as easy as that though I wish it were.

So the wiki says Miko has a 100 base attack stat. I decided to get a Jolly one and EV it. It's got 250 attack anyway.

Fuck.

The Ten Desires puppets on that particular wiki deal with the Emerald version. Miko's stats are different in Enhanced and Emerald.

The reasoning for the difference is that the official hack stopped updating after 1.812, at which time Ten Desires had not even been announced, and therefore the puppets were absent from the official game. So everyone started making their own spreads for the TD crew.

From what I hear, Enhanced uses the Ten Desires puppets from one (or all, I don't even know) of the Unofficial Japanese hacks.

Depends on the version you're playing.

If you're playing a Fire Red based hack, then check the Celadon mall.

If you're playing Agastya's Emerald, then, check the readme file.

It's not much more accurate than Sleep Powder, and it's also far less reliable due to sleep mechanics.

Hijiri seems better because of Jamming

Jamming would be cool if the AI ever switched outside of Perish Song.

Tech is pretty deadly, Swords Dance and Extremespeed.

Anyone else hate it how loading a savestate in VBA resets your save file too, even if you don't save ingame?
I do.
