Can't you pick up a scanner for, like, $50 USD nowadays?

Your monetary sacrifice will be greatly appreciated by our penises.

What method do they use then? I've got a fair bit of experience binding and unbinding.

I'm not sure; I've never scanned anything before, so the whole process is kind of new to me. I'm thinking of maybe getting this, but I'm not sure how helpfull it would be.

They only seem to use that model number in japan, so I can't find english specs. What does it do? (Other than the obvious)

i don't know if it works with doujnshi glue but whenever i need to remove stickers i use a hair dryer to dissolve the glue by heating it up

It's a little more complex, but that's basically the standard method (assuming they use glue spine perfect binding).

Iron the spine (through brown paper or something to avoid damage) until the glue softens sufficiently to remove the cover. Then do this until all the pages are separated. They'll still have glue on them, probably long stretchy bits from being pulled off the spine.

Then you iron the page through a towel or other piece of cloth which is folded over it. Move the page up and down with your hand while applying heat until all the glue melts and sticks to the cloth instead of the paper.

Bear in mind that even when you do this correctly the back edge of the page will look like shit. You have to mash it up to make it adhere to the glue in the first place.

Incidentally perfect binding is the worst thing ever. Pages fall out, spines crack and warp, the margins are horribly inconsistent and sometimes aren't even parallel. And they even use it for fucking hardbacks these days! There is NO reason to buy a modern hardback. The spine will warp even faster than a paperback, for god's sake.

Oh, and depending on the glue/pages, sometimes you can just dip the edge in solvent to remove the glue. Wouldn't recommend it if you only have one copy though.
