Nanoha S1: Yuuno spends most his time in ferret form playing up to the 'magic familiar teaching the new magic girl the rules' arch-type. Chrono is badass for one episode before letting Nanoha do all the work again, does some crap towards the end. Best season for the men in Nanoha.

Nanoha A's: Yuuno stays in his boy form through out but has almost entirely been replaced by Fate. Chrono and Yuuno enter support roles while Nanoha, Fate and Arf have duels. Chrono gets to be a bit more badass when he gets to do stuff in the background. Admiral Graham proves himself to be the best male ever in any Nanoha series (seriously, the guy has two completely loyal catgirl familiars, attempts to destroy the Book of Darkness and puts the entire universe at risk for his actions... he gets a slap on the risk and retired WITH HIS TWO HOT CATGIRLS.) Zefira gets his best action this series.

StrikerS: All men are now support characters entirely, Chrono gets a couple minutes, Yuuno gets a couple minutes, Zefira is a dog throughout as though they couldn't even be bothered animating him in his bad ass guardian form. Elio plays up to the shota role, gets horrible animation throughout. Pilot helps a bit, mostly acts as a plot device to stop Teana moping so much. Super gay friend for Hayate, he makes dogs and helps in the investigation for a minute, offers cake.

Ok, perhaps they aren't as rare as I suggest, but for the most part having a penis in Nanoha means you're going to be cheering the women on and hoping they don't cut you out to give the expanded cast more time to train.

Along with Chrono and Zafira. Zafira is now towel dog, they didn't even let him change to eat at the table in StrikerS. Chrono has a desk job, his biggest role in StrikerS was sitting at his desk unlocking the Aces powers, oh and sitting in ship complaining about how he isn't going to make it on time.

S1 and A's Chrono did shit and put both Nanoha and Fate in their places from time to time. At least he's married Amy now, but he doesn't get to do shit. He was better as a shota.

Just ugh. The numbers got better characterisation then he did, even the ones that didn't get to do much. Scagaletti spent most his time doing a evil laugh and his motivation seemed to come down to 'because I want to'. Previously other villains had some fairly legitimate reasons for their actions; Precia desperately wanted to revive her daughter Alicia, unable to accept a clone of her as the real thing after breaking down from the initial loss. Reinforce and the Wolkenritter's motivations were to give Hayate the power to save herself from the condition she ironically got from being the master of the book of darkness, with Admiral Graham's motivation being to use Hayate (a orphan with strong untapped magic and no connection to anyone) to control the book of darkness and freeze it and Hayate for ever.

Scagaletti is revealed to basically want to carry on project Fate and make his own armies to control Midchilda and it's empire... that or sell it to everyone, his rants get a bit stupid towards the end but basically he was a 2D MWHAHAHA I'M EVIL badie, even his fight against Fate was disappointing and the evil Defence General had better reasoning for his betrayals.

Admiral Graham is basically how Anon would do magic in the Nanoha setting. He creates two incredibly hot cat girl familiars each one easy equal to both Nanoha AND Fate during A's specialising in either combat or magic and lets them do all the work while he sits behind his desk earning a Admiral's pay check.

Later he's caught, his loyal cat girls still clinging to him. As punishment for threatening all of dimensional space and using a CRIPPLED GIRL to set up his attempt at revenge he is forcibly retired. Not dishonourably discharged or anything like that, but basically told he doesn't have to work any more and draw out his fat pension living in England with his two hot cat girls.

Fuck you, Admiral Graham got the best end. You know all he does all day is fuck his familiars and surf the internet.

Don't you mean his familiars were awesome? One playful and energetic, the other calm and intelligent. Both extremely fuckable and rather friendly. Sure, they kicked the main cast around a bit following their orders, but that's just how prepared they were to follow their masters will. When everything comes full circle and Chrono accuses Admiral Graham they still tried to take all the blame. It's like having two Arf's, though it seems Fate stuck all the proportions on her familiar, though not nearly as much of her magical energy. Either Admiral Graham is seriously powerful, or he's infusing them with all his mana every night... if you know what I mean.

I wanted the male characters to do something cool. Yuuno, Chrono, Verossa, and even fucking Vice were better characters than any of the trainees, which consisted of 3 useless moeblobs and an equally useless shota.

Yuuno works at a library. That means he learned some ancient Velka magic by researching it for 10 years or something. And did you see him floating in the Infinite Library? He could probably do some hacker shit and cast Gates of Babylon. But no, they didn't even bother to change his voice. FATE'S VOICE WAS LOWER THAN HIS.

Chrono wears a spiky black outfit, yet all he does is sit at his desk and jerk off. That's unfair. He should be on the front lines killing people with a bigass sword. Plus, he's voiced by Sugita, so imagine the one liners.

Verossa is perfect for the role of fabulous guy who can nuke shit by blinking. The fact that he is played by Ono D should've been enough to make the writers give him a badass part, but no. All he does is summon his gay dog familiars.

Vice was a pilot and was formerly a sniper. He was useful about once in the whole story, but was otherwise a plot device for Tiana. Fuck that, he should at least give constant cover fire during an operation.

The trainees were all useless. The main three and the knights were more than enough moe. There were not enough badass heroes. Pic related.

This works until you realise that all the way throughout A's Vita was using attacks with actual mass and a great degree of control. Nanoha just blocked that shit or straight up broke it in half with her own magical equivalent.

The reason mass-based weapons seemed to be banned in Midchildia is because they are lethal, magic seems to default to non-lethal with ranged attacks unless you are aiming to kill the other person. But really, Midchildia is fucked up with it's child soldiers and crazy factions. The mass weapons they real hate seem to be kind of half/magical like Duex's gun.

Still, a assault rifle would mean you'd get to own the shitty ground mages they have that can't even fly.

I thought that at first, but Teana and Subaru did really well out of the series and I enjoyed their development. Teana had a huge inferiority complex made worse by being in a team full of elites, only to come around to realise her strength wasn't in her magic potential like everyone else, but in her intelligence. She completely owned three numbers at once. Sure, one of them got better and she was saved by Vice, but it was a real sense of accomplishment that made all her crap seem worth while.

Subaru dealt with her hesitation towards combat and pulled herself together to realise why she wanted to become a powerful mage in the first place. Subaru got one probably the best scene in all of StrikerS when she started berserk packing the numbers over her sister.

Elio and Caro could have been completely forgotten. At best they had maybe one reasonable scene each, usually they just got poor animation and weren't very interesting. Caro basically ammounts to StrikerS trying to find a new magic gimmick like they did with cartridges in A's and failed when they realised they can't draw monsters for shit, so adding 'summoning' to the types of magic wasn't very well thought out.

Basically, they should have summed up Teana and Subaru with less training crap, used manga material instead of some of the shit they put in about the red tape of the organisation and completely dropped most of Elio and Caro's involvement to mere background characters, giving people like Signum, Hayate and Chrono more time to do shit.

I kind of expected the men to get less time, it's just how Nanoha goes, but all of Hayate's screen time amounted to her giving orders or getting permission. She finally gets to be the magic girl and doesn't get to do much other then artillery. ;_;

To be fair, Yuuno was never a fighter; he was crap at offensive magic and that's why he got his ass kicked and had to call in Nanoha in the first place. By the way, according to the sound stages, Yuuno's luck with the ladies might not be as bad as StrikerS indicates, except for the fact that he's turned into a workaholic and doesn't seem to care (possibly Chrono's fault).

From A's Sound stage 3:

Suzuka: I wonder if Yuuno-kun will turn back to ferret mode for us. I really like petting him.
Arissa: Yeah... I know

Chrono: That reminds me Yuuno, you're not in ferret mode today.
Yuuno: Oh yeah, it's been a year now, so most of my magic reserves have gone back to normal. So now I can stay in this form without any problems.

I just started watching StrikerS.
Whose fucking idea was it to start the series as a flashback with a DFC Nanoha? This series would be so much better if they kept that Nanoha instead of the healthy one. Not quite loli but not too healthy either. She was perfect. Probably the best 2 minutes of the entire series, I'm sure.
