Coming at it from the artist side of things, I'm kind of disappoint. Everything I know about KanColle I know from the KanColle wiki, and I only know that much because my best friend asked me to help out and guest in her doujin for a KanColle only event. I haven't been terribly impressed with KanColle so far (at least as compared to Touhou) because I'm a huge mythology geek and I think there are a lot more interesting stories that you can tell with the characters and setups in Touhou.
I write and draw Touhou doujinshi and fanart and sell them at cons, and they haven't been selling nearly as well as they used to. It's a shame because if I'm going to draw fanart I want it to be something I love, like Touhou or Marvel comics. I'm always torn because I know I can make money by hopping on the bandwagon and drawing Kill La Kill or whatever else is popular, but I'd rather draw what I love, and what I love isn't selling very well.
I'm still doing Touhou doujinshi (I'm currently working on one about Wakasagihime), but my partner and I haven't put out a new English Touhou doujin for a couple of years now. Part of it is because we haven't had time, and part of it is because it's hard to justify a print run if you're not even sure you'll sell enough at a given event to even make your money back. Granted, the doujin markets are very different here in the US as opposed to Japan.
So on the one hand, I understand artists and consumers wanting to move on to something new, but on the other hand it makes me a little sad that now that my art sucks less, there's still less interest in it because of the content.
TL;DR: KanColle bores me and I want Touhou to stay popular because baby gots bills to pay.
