Because a lot of my favorite Touhou Project artists and circles were getting into it and I figured I should give it a shot. The ones who really convinced me were probably kannnu (of Tenco's story fame) and kagero (who I first got to know through three Sanae books, many years ago).

It also helped that I already had a pretty substantial interest in both WWII and the process of modernization in Imperial Japan.
