It's pretty hard to deal with. I guess I've been a little hard on Kancolle, it must have something of substance if it can inspire so much work.

It's not just hipsterism, though. I just feel like there's inherently more behind Touhou than Kancolle. Gensokyo is a place I want to learn more about and probably would be so even without all the doujin works. All the characters seem to have personality flaws that make them interesting, and for the most part have characterful designs that catch the eye. Kancolle on the other hand is a free-to-gamble browser game where the ships are all shallow anthropomorphizations who don't have much going for them but Shimakaze's sex appeal.

I've posted a few rants about how little I like Shimakaze and I don't really feel like doing it again. She just seems utterly soulless to me.
