You wake up to the sound of something crashing into your house followed by incessant screeching.
It turns out to be a (likely autistic) harpy, clearly wounded. You've treated strays before, this isn't anything too new, just bigger and way more dangerous. And so you do your best to get her patched up and take care of the dumb bird while getting multiple claw marks and fractured bones yourself until she's finally in a good enough shape to leave.
You try to help her take off.
She doesn't. She just goes back inside to shovel your nuggies into her mouth and lock herself inside your gaming room. Any attempt to encourage her to leave ends with her either shaking her head or loudly screeching at you.
Getting desperate, you sedate her, shove her sleeping body into a car and leave her miles away from your house. You don't feel good about it, but it's for her own good.
When you try to get inside your house, the door refuses to budge. You've clearly unlocked it, but something is blocking it on the other side. Then you hear knocking on a nearby window.
That stupid bird is looking at you from inside with a smug grin on her face.
Looks like you now have a new roommate, one that isn't entirely keen on living on her own.

There should be a story where Mumei is an autistic whale-obsessed nerd and in order to study them closer, she joins Kronii's crew. Mumei meets a bunch of colorful characters on the ship, with the one closest to her being the cannibalistic muscle mommy Bae who she shares a bed with (no homo).
But then everything goes to shit when it becomes apparent that Kronii is fucking insane and is perfectly willing to get her own crew horribly maimed and killed as long as she can kill the bastard that took her heart: a giant green whale with trees branches sticking out of its head. Between the obsessed captain and the borderline demonic sea mammal, it's hard to define who is the true evil.
Mumei ends up being the only survivor of this ordeal thanks to the coffin Bae was preparing for herself as she felt her death approaching.

This is a very novel idea, but I'm not sure about the name. Maybe Mocha Dick?

Oh, you know. Just making character sheets.
If I may share with the rest of the class, I found that asking yourself "What if?" questions about your characters that force them to solve a problem is not only fun, but gives you insight into what their personalities are and could be.
>What if Botan woke up in a strange room without any memory of the past 24 hours?
>What if Botan got hit by a car that broke her spine, rendering her unable to move from the waist down?
>What if Botan got arrested for a crime she didn't commit?
>What if Botan got terminal cancer?
They can either be questions that have something to do with their role in the plot, or just random questions. As long as they force the character to solve a problem somehow (or allow them to choose not to solve it, which would still give insight into how they are as characters).

The point is to see how the character would react to a problem as their selves and, through that, see what kind of personality they have.
So, if Nene landed in Kansas one night in her spaceship, she'd try to greet the Earthlings in peace (since she's so friendly and all that). The Earthlings (maybe some farmer and his wife), however, would probably try shooting her with a 12 gauge. So how would she get around that? Also, why did she land? Was her ship broken? Does she have to repair it? Does Nene even know how to repair her own ship?
If Nene tested HIV positive, the first thing she'd probably ask the doctor is, "What is HIV? Does it taste good??" Then let's say the good doctor explains it. She'll probably be like, "Ehhhh???"
To contrast, if someone like Suisei was told she was HIV positive, her eyes would widen and she'd either tell the doctor that they must've gotten it all wrong, or immediately rack her brains to remember who the hell she fucked recently, sweat running down her forehead as she does so.
The method could help jog one's brain to think of how a certain chuuba would act on things (or what their personality would be toward certain things), especially if there's no existing source to use a direct basis.

Hey thanks for checking it out and the nice words. The low word count definitely kneecapped it a little bit, but I both wanted to both participate in the contest this time around, as well as see if I could manage to cut it down and still tell the same story at its core. I'm really glad the concept was fun to read through, since as soon as I started the second scene I was pretty into it.

I did keep the original version since it's basically its own story as well, and I'm also going to give it some touch ups I came up with while making the shortened version. Cutting scenes almost abruptly was a big obstacle for me with this, as well as deciding what scenes I can really cut and still have the same end point. Originally there's a heist scene for Lamy's gift, and then I made a version that was about 1/3 of the length, but I still couldn't keep that in either. Justice also plays an actual role in the story. Advent as your possy and support group is a dynamic I really enjoy, so I'll gladly release it at some point. Maybe after the contest voting happens, since it might feel like a cheat somehow if a fic is in there and there is a longer version of it released as well.
