Shiori is something we haven't seen in Hololive yet, or at least to this degree. The difference is that Kronii, Ame and Mori are just collabing with males out of spite like rebellious teenagers. Bae simply loves cock and that's the end of that but Shiori, Shiori is unironically into NTR. Anyone who checks her rm out will find that out fairly quickly. She gets off of cucking her fans with other men. This is her great plot, to get as many guys who want GFE to fall for her to NTR more people than she did ever before. It's why she joined Hololive.
Mark my words, we're seeing the build-up of a yab that will dwarf everything before it by a landslide, even Rushia's.

Hello fellow Novelites,

the polling for book club is finished and our winners are:

Of Mice and Men - John Steinbeck
>readable here
https://giove.isti.cnr.it/demo/eread/Libri/sad/OfMiceAndMen.pdf
This is the longer option, although still a fairly light read.

The Rats in the Walls - Howard Phillips Lovecraft
>readable here
https://www.hplovecraft.com/writings/texts/fiction/rw.aspx
This is the shorter option.

You can read either one or both and we will rate and dicuss them starting on the first of September.

See you around and have fun!

i want to get back into reading for shiorin
do you guys prefer physical books or use an e-reader?
physical is nice and owning the actual item encourages you to stay invested compared to how easy it is to just close out on something on digital, but prices can be inconsistent depending on what you're trying to get. with an e-reader you can basically just pirate everything if you want
also music or no music during reading sessions?

Hey librarychan! The sleepover had a lot of book talk so I think you'll enjoy it. Shiori was a bit all over the place, but that's just how she is I think. Later the whole gen entered open VC and we got some peak cringekino with awkward silence and all. (I think they'll find their stride later on, it's always like this around debuts.)
I'm glad you're here by the way. When I asked you to advertise on /vt/ at some point I later realized that I would have no idea where you would post. Makes sense that you'd still be here.

I have some books on my shelf that I've gone through, I'm catching up on my teenage years and re-reading Cherub series.
Books I don't own these days I'll check out a book store that isn't too far from my place, then a library, and if it doesn't have either that's when I search for an e-book / audio book.
As for music when reading, just some nice background music that doesn't have any lyrics to it, just to sort of set the tone / mood.

same, I have a couple textbooks from uni but have not read book-books much since highschool. I think there's a reason most of the most famous authors are 19th and early 20th centuries - film/TV etc superceded them as storytelling elements in many ways. I work a STEM field so for me reading is mostly for storing/dispensing nonfiction information, and to me reading a book is like, while it is the best way to get the most specific crystallized and refined thoughts and intents of an author across, literature easily can bog itself down in its own details and be kind of too much of a waste of time for the caliber/quality of story being told.

the physical time needed to read and take in descriptions of things vs just being shown a picture of it is just inefficient - hence most people prefer audio/visual modes of storytelling and a several-hundred-page-book that could take days to read, can sometimes actually be turned into a movie mostly-intact and taken in in 2-3 hours. the bit rate of reading is very low in other words so to get really-into just reading a lot is to me like trying to drink up a milkshake through a coffee straw - I'll humor it if it's allegedly the greatest shake ever but most of the time it isn't and it's more annoying than it's worth to do. and I'm not a slow reader either, I in fact was in an accelerated reading program and read moby dick in like 2 days in middle school. and I still don't find it really-worth my time.

It's true that bungo stray dogs pays homages to the authors by making them characters. But it feels like they're too quirky and I only got through 1 episode. If you're looking for anime adaptations of modern classic Japanese literature. I recommend Aoi Bungaku, which is an anime that adapts 6 very popular modern classic Japanese literature (No Longer Human by Osamu Dazai, Kokoro by Natsume Soseki, In The Forest, Under Cherries in Full Bloom by Ango Sakaguchi, 'Run, Melos' by Osamu, The Spider's Thread and Hell Screen by Ryūnosuke Akutagawa). I watched the adaptation and got myself the physical copies of Kokoro and No Longer Human and I would it's a faithful recreation and they even gave two interpretations of Kokoro

You can only recover it by transcending the bounds of society and realizes that the need for external validation is meaningless. Kafka's whole deal is that society is meaningless to the point of insanity, nothing matters and we'll all get crushed under the indifferent wheels of chance eventually no matter what we do. No matter how good you are, how well you fit in, how much you comply with societies rules, you are just as capable of being indifferently crushed by it as anything else. I agree with the other guy that self-reflection is important, but it all depends on context. I'm already a hermit, and while I'm "content", I'm not really happy. I think I would be much happier if I had someone to talk to IRL.

Unironically talking to people online does tip the scale ever so slightly. Humanity is still in its infancy stage, and we're all trying to find out where to go next. If you think about humanity as a large super-organism, you could argue that (productive) discourse with other people leads to a better future. You may not be around to see it, but it's something.
Of course, you could do more impactful stuff like becoming a doctor or a professor or something, but that requires going outside.

I believe that being able to enjoy (written) works of fiction is a prerequisite for higher thought processes. It's essentially the ability to think in conditionals, to simulate something you know is not real in your mind. I have met people who would get annoyed at conditional questions, such as "imagine if x" and had the answer be "well it isn't dumbass". I've noticed that these kinds of people had trouble with polynomials and had a weird obsession with authority structures and rules to follow ("Yeah, but he's a doctor!"). I also believe these people to be the majority of the population. This isn't some kind of "normies are dumb"-rant, rather I am convinced that the way children are raised focuses so much on rules and rigid systems that a lot of kids simply learn how to behave to solve a problem instead of learning creative problem solving and go from there. They never ask why, because they have already been taught how.

Thoughts?

>>55105767
I agree on the whole, but the general population is not at all ready for such a change. It needs to be a gradual process. It's a shame since it means we'll be that much further behind on our evolution as a species, but it simply not realistic at any other pace.
It's interesting, I totally understand people's concerns about globalization for the short-term. It's definitely a valid concern. But long-term, it's inevitable so we might as well try to guide the process in a logical manner.

I find it curious how being uneducated is such a point of shame, that people would rather pretend to know, than simply ask and learn. The Reader had me think about this a lot when I read it in school. Isn't it a self-perpetuating cycle? People pretending to know will often lash out when probed further instead of saying they don't know. For a child this discourages inquisitiveness. Not knowing becomes uncomfortable, because asking for answers is.
It's just baffling to me, how insecurity has shaped certain ways in which a society raises their children and coincidentally fucks them up in the same way. Despite that we espouse philosophers of old who had the courage to ask, but lack the introspection that we could simply ask as well.

Our educational system was created with a single purpose of raising cattle. Creativity and imagination are the enemies of control, and control is all that matters for people in power, even if it means stifling the growth of human race.
The sheeple you see everywhere are the result of that policy; humans with shallow minds who are too scared of things outside of their small comfort zone. The Internet doesn't help here either, because even though it provides you with a whole world of information people still choose to remain in their bubbles, and the lack of time and ever-faster lifestyle doesn't give you time for self-reflection or reading something longer than a tweet or post, which also doesn't leave room for imagination and growth.

Honestly, a large part of this may simply be that these things correlate with intelligence. A dumb person might be unable to properly enjoy a book because it requires too much abstract thinking, and the same dumb person isn't going to figure out how to get to the moon. But that doesn't mean a smart person can't prefer video games to books, and still get us to the moon.
