As for the topic, probably Legend of Dragoon. It's still fun, but man do I recognize the flaws now.

I know this might sound crazy (it definitely doesn't deserve its own thread ) but I like to view games based on just how much fun I'm having (like I did when I was a kid) I've managed to enjoy a lot of imperfect games and I'd rather do that then setting my standards super high and only playing the best of the best. I can honestly say for example latest project is pac in time and you know what? I'm having fun with a nice imperfect little game. People get too hung up on shit. If a game isn't 100 percent broken it's still usually pretty fun.The issue with games today is a focus on noveltly over gameplay. But this is just one anon's idea's

The Breath of Fire series in general, I suppose. Most of them have god awful translations and are unreasonably slow-paced even for their time, with far too high encounter rates.

Still, I had some good times with them. I want to say 3 was my favorite, but I also remember a lot of time spent lost and confused in the Desert of Death.

Still I like a lot about Pandemonium, especially the visual design and the music of the forest levels. To me as a kid this game felt like an adventure more than probably any other on the PlayStation. There was something breathtaking about the background art.

However, looking back I see that its just doesn't play that well. The main reason is that controls are really badly unresponsive -- to the point of spoiling the experience when I try to play it now. Just compare it to the sequel, which controls smoothly (though I think it is inferior in most ways). Try to double-jump as Nikki in both and see for yourself.

Pandemonium may still be a great audiovisual experience but the flawed controls make it not a great game.

This game had some cool bits, especially on the tatooine levels, but overall it was a buggy mess that was also ridiculously difficult. I never made any progress on it as a kid without cheat codes.

Yeah, most of the good Game Boy games were just watered down versions of NES games and even original works like Kirby and Fortified Zone eventually got better versions on home consoles.

The Wario Land series was brilliant and unlike anything we got on consoles of the period. Say what you will about Super Mario Land being a GB version of its console cousin, but Wario Land was a completely different beast entirely. Puzzle games also worked better on the GB, IMO, than on the home consoles, and there were a ton on the GB that were quality.

Not sure why but I loved that level as a kid, I think I just loved being able to wander around and explore without having to constantly fight. It also blew my mind as a kid that if you stood in the shit all the dialogue would change to reflect that.

I somehow managed to import this when I was a kid. I loved it when I didn't understand a word of the dialogue, but replaying this recently it's pretty barebones and lackluster for an SNES beat-'em-up. Most of your special moves are worthless, there's no weapons to grab and you're always fighting only two enemies at a time. I think even the SNES Final Fight holds up better than this.

It's not a bad game, but Secret of Mana/SD2 simply has some conceptual design flaws, that hold the game back.
