we don't enjoy classic movies from film's early period, what makes English departments think we would enjoy or care about books from the beginning of literature's history?

how myopic can they be...
"progress" learn about it, the worst fiction today makes the stuff from the 1800s look like a child's drivel

>implying 1800s is early English

Lord oh lord, the Trolls are desperate today.

I'm only talking about people with good taste. There are of course, people who enjoy terrible food, terrible music, and even worse film, as you mentioned.

your analogy doesn't make sense. we don't enoy classic movies or classic books. if you take an English class, you study classic books. if you take a film class, you study classic movies.

>we don't enjoy classic movies or books

that is his point I think, which makes the whole studying aspect seem trivial since literally no one enjoys those books or cares about their analysis

>> No.2664529

That's quite an incorrect assumption, sir.

But studying the classics gives you a greater understanding of the medium and its modern state.

Haha! what a right dull chap you are!

You remind me of those idiots who give Dickens books 1 star reviews on Amazon and begin the review with "I had to read this for my English class".

I've read dickens, tale of two cities, for my own pleasure.

It was terrible.
Although I admit he can create some wonderful prose. But it wasn't enough to save his terrible story with extremely dull and over sentimental characters.

I would give it 2 stars, the prose was nice, here and there...kind of like Moby Dick. A failure as a book, but some parts were well-written.
