>Is it worth the ¥600 a month?

Their website says it is. Why would they lie?

>> No.9047497

No. Language learning is best done at your own pace and not something you should push yourself through because you don't want to feel like you wasted money on it. Besides all the resources to learn a language are already free on the internet.

That's a very good point... but it seems like something that would help greatly with motivation! If I spend my own money on something then I will do my best to not waste it. I'm not sure how I can get motivated otherwise.

Plus the UI is just gorgeous.

I think you know it used to be free. I wouldn't spend shit on a company who backstabs their users.

>>9047513

If you don't have the motivation to do it by yourself you're probably never going to learn it or need to use it. Learning a language requires a lot of time and practice and without motivation you wont be able to learn one. You also can't pay for motivation because eventually you'll be more focused on not wasting your money than learning it to do all the fun things you wanted to use the language for.

How can I learn a real language like German or Chinese?
/jp/ seems to only be interested in weeaboo moon runes for their doujins

>>9047522
Well, I guess I misspoke... I've already learned all the kana on my own and a little bit of vocabulary, I was motivated enough to do that. It would just be a boost, I think.

>>9047519
Yes, the blog I heard about it on didn't mention anything about pricing, and this was from 2011. That is a little disconcerting...

Humans have a seemingly infinite capacity for long-term memory. Through repetition and hands-on practice you can memorize words, useful phrases, and anything else such as grammar rules you need. It's not like Asians are hard-wired for memorizing symbols, it's just that humans can memorize and store almost anything if it's important enough for them.

>>9047536
Kanji isn't hard and Tae Kim makes it really easy to learn grammar with his grammar guide. For Kanji it's kind of like Kana, but instead of memorizing two characters for one pronunciation you're memorizing one character with two pronunciations to begin with. It would be a good idea to find somebody Japanese to talk to in Japanese. I've found that a lot of Japanese otaku use Steam to play PC games so if you know enough Japanese to talk to them you'll eventually learn some more. As for Tae Kim's guide try to read a little each day. If you find yourself getting bored take a break and find something else to do. Remember learning a language is all about going at your own pace.

Also /jp/ is a relatively slow board so you don't need to bump your thread as people actually tend to read past the first few pages.

If you struggle with your lack of motivation, simply start reading a VN, no matter how small your vocab is. Was a big motivation boost for me.

Make sure you know how to use a kanji-by-radical dictionary before doing this.

I second this. It's a really helpful grammar resource. Also, go at your own pace, it doesn't matter whether you're Asian or not. As humans, most of us are born with equal mental capacities (which are theoretically unlimited) Im Asian, and this is just as difficult to me as it would me to anyone else. And like the others stressed, going at your own pace is essential.

There's great free resources as several have mentioned, but I actually learn well with the iknow system. Something about hearing the voice, seeing the kanji/kana and associating it with a picture all at the same time has really helped my memorization.

Not enough to pay for it though. I did it when it was free and resumed when they offered me a free trial but I haven't actually spent money on it. Yet, anyway. I keep hoping it will go back to being free or something I guess.
