Nah I normally get around 2000 music tickets from party time quests using fascination dance. So lets break this down. 35k for a hero cheese which would mean at my rate I would need to do around 18 party time quests. Might sound like a lot but it's really not. Palmia in North Tyris and Arcbelc in South Tyris are towns that specialize in party time quests. Can usually find 4-5 of them in each town. So I can knock out 10 party time quests in one day, wait 3 more days for the job board quests to refresh, and do another batch of 5 in either Palmia or Arcbelc. Can easily speed up time if I wanted those 3 days to pass quickly. Can either hop on a slow animal, put on the fetter's of earth, or do some crafting that takes a long time to finish to speed up time. I recently timed myself and I could get a hero cheese/magic fruit every 20 minutes if I wanted.

Normally I'm not focusing on just getting hero cheese/magic fruit though. I always try to multitask or lump activities. Like I may make a goal that I would like to replenish my platinum reserves. So what I end up doing is just visiting each town doing panic, challenge, and hunting quests. However I usually add other activities to it just because of the, "well while I'm at it...". So I'll do party time quests and farm for scrolls and spellbooks of wish. Normally at the end of traveling between North Tyris, Irva, South Tyris, and returning to North Tyris I'll have accumulated 300 platinum, one hero cheese/magic fruit, a whole lot of wonder scrolls/gain material scrolls, and maybe a spellbook of wish. Like what I just got in my pic doing my rounds.

At any rate, I feel like I'm getting the best of both worlds by allocating one resource to getting hero cheese/magic fruit and another to just getting statues/gemstones. I normally do my sister farming on fever mode days or when I want to farm more small medals and get more loot from dungeons to sell in my shops.

Fascination dance is as good as your charisma so herbs help there but the easiest way to level up charisma is to do bulk 50 investing. So once you have ways to make lots of gold it's very easy to level up charisma. Also you can buff charisma now with the gem spell.

Yes, speed can play a heavy role in how long it takes to get from one point to another. Like at my speed I can make the trek from Port Kapul to Noyel in 7 hours in game time without 7 league boots.

Also, how come riding seems to make me slower instead of faster? How does riding even work? Should I ditch trying to ride my monsters?

1. You should try for an adamantium living weapon with 9 levels of elemental damage. Magic works on basically everything. Lightning can be boosted with Element Scar and Wet. Nether heals you.

You're going to have some challenges you're going to have to overcome. Brainwashing which can turn pets against you and your other pets can be pretty crippling if your pets are doing everything for you. Also you're going to need to make sure healing rain can keep up with the damage your pets are taking. Problem is that healing rain isn't necessarily the strongest healing spell in the game but it's alright at what it does. Custom really helped pet AI but pet AI can still be dumb. There are likely going to be situations or enemies you're going to have to prioritize over others and pets may or may not have the means to adapt as quickly. Also you'll need to answer what you're going to do when there's more monsters than pets around you. Are you going to hide? Can you hide? If your pets are much stronger than you are and a monster gets through to you it's game over. Then you have the normal challenges of pet ownership such as being able to outfit all your pets well enough and getting what they need to become stronger.

This is just theorycrafting, but I think you could use the status effects to control your pets' priorities. AFAIK, there's no way to get your pets to change to a particular target. Checking for target=oil will only check if the enemy they're already targetting is afflicted, instead of looking around at all enemes.

However, they do seem to prioritize enemies the player is fighting, so ranged attacks can be used to 'mark' an enemy for pets to kill.

Three questions about pets cooking/crafting after sleep events:
1. Is there anything that influences when it happens other than what time you wake up? I've had the cooking event not activate multiple times when I woke up at the proper.
2. The wiki says that other pets with cooking will contribute half of their cooking skill to the result (same for crafting). So assuming that I should give all my pets cooking, which is smarter: giving pleasant sleep blankets to all but one so she gets the most cooking gains, or not using pleasant sleep blankets (accepting slower growth) so there is a better chance of the cooking event activating?
3. Can you get both the tailoring and carpentry events to activate in one morning, or only one or the other?

Since pets prioritize what you target, just use the [ l ] (that's L lower case) command to allow you to choose your current target on the screen. You pets will focus down whatever you target. You don't even have to lift a finger to shoot a ranged attack this way and draw aggro.

Similarly, pressing [ * ] on the keyboard/numpad will allow more freeform targeting

1) The wiki entry that says 4AM to 9AM sounds correct. I've never had a breakfast event past 9AM but I have received crafts from my pets past 9. Aside from pets having the cooking skill, going to bed at a good enough time is important as well. Also your pets must be fellow or above to cook you breakfast and other pets helping must be fellow or above to help out in cooking as well.

2) What matters to get the breakfast event to show up is what I said above. Crafting event requires pet/pets at soulmate with tailoring/carpentry. Who actually is the main cook or crafter is chosen at random although you can go on long streaks with one pet doing those tasks before for no reason some random pet is chosen to do it. There is no rhyme or reason for who does it form what I can tell. I've had even my weakest cook and crafters step up to the plate every now and then.

To have better control I suppose you can use pleasant sleep blankets however it should be noted that the main cook/crafter raises their skill when they do it and anyone that helps also can raise their respective skills as well. For a pet to actually help the main cook/crafter they also need to have the required skill and relationship level. For example, cooking helpers need fellow or above and craft helpers need soul mate or higher.

3) Yes, you can get all three events to happen. Breakfast, tailoring, and carpentry. Like in my pic my group crafted me a fairy hat and plate mail.

I have discovered that Tiled maps just hold a reference to an atlas image, it isn't embedded in the map file. This means I can preserve moddability without manually filling the array. Once I parse the map I can decide whether the maptile ought to be pathable based on the sprite it contains, or index for special locations. I am feeling good and don't want to sleep.

Elona maps are stored in .map files which may or may not have been created in the quake 3 engine. I have no clue how to open and parse these to redraw the maps so I have to do this some other way.

A texture atlas, also called a sprite sheet, is a large image that contains many smaller ones, usually ones that all need to be loaded into memory together for a single purpose. For example, all of the different tiles used in the overworld are stored in graphics/map0.bmp. Apparently it's cheaper to snip out bits of one big image than load several into a graphics card.
Tiled Map Editor is a tool for making tiled 2D maps. I loaded map0.bmp, told it each sprite is 48x48 and it created a file that holds the path to map0 and the size of the sprites. This file is metadata, data about what is inside the map0 file and how to use it. Tiled reads that file and creates a palette of the images in map0 which I can paint a grid with. Still alot of work but much easier than slicing up each atlas inside visual studio and then filling an enormous array with nTyrisMap[0,0]=mapzero["sea"], nTyrisMap[0,1]=mapzero["sea"], etc... What is most important to me is that it keeps both the atlas metadata and map files as xml than I can easily parse them inside my C# project and easily edit by hand with notepad instead of creating some compressed bullshit that nobody can change without rebuilding the program. This means I can load map1 (atlas for towns, wilderness, dungeons, etc...) into Elona# and use those sprites to procedurally generate a dungeon floor and players can still use custom graphics by overwriting the files in the graphics directory.

The image I posted shows the northwest portion of North Tyris after I renamed map1.bmp (atlas for towns and wilderness) to map0.bmp.

Did you get a blackout or the game crashed out of nowhere? You could try to create a new character, press F12 and type "fixcorrupt1" (never works but who knows). Second option is to use the same new character to test the files of your corrupted save file (transfer one core file from the old save to new one, test it ingame, repeat until the new save crashes, delete file that crashed the save and savage the rest). ElonaExtender was released in 2015, but the dev still updates it every now and then (the most recent update was released on 2017/03/20, directly from the official site).
I only use a few features (extra log window, weight% display, comma on gold-related values, save window placement, screenshots, and the most important one, back up on save&exit), but they work just fine. I'm not sure about the other ones (like equipment sets), but I only noticed problems in one feature, the "backup on any manual/auto-save": it works, but it will crash your game fairly often, even if you set a big "cooldown" on it. No damage will be done to your save data, but it gets really annoying after a while.

I see. That's unfortunate that the holy well starts off dry but should be a minor setback. Not much really changes from what I suggested. You will still be doing hunting, book delivery, before it's too late, and escort quests in the beginning. Once you have weight lifting give the harvest quests in Yowyn a go.

The main difference now since you don't have early access to the holy well for the seven league boots is that your quests that revolve travel, such as before it's too late quests, will be harder. In that case, just take quests that are shorter distance until you get those boots. Like Vernis to Derphy,Yowyn, or even Palmia is completely doable. Don't take say Vernis to Noyel though. Vernis to Lumiest would be a gamble.

As for wishing for the 7lb you'll be able to do that eventually. I would not suggest using your character to drink from wells for your wish. Instead, just have your pet drink from the wells for you to avoid anything bad on your character. Pets can trigger wishes for you. If your pet should die by falling in the well or something revive them at the bar. A few hundred gold to revive a pet should be nothing compared to the thousands you're making doing the quests above. So yeah it's only a matter of time before you get your first wish that way and with the 7lb it will make those traveling quests much easier and open up harder and better paying quests of those kinds.

Invest in a magic vendor of your choosing once you have enough gold and look into getting the crafting tools to start selling crafts to supplement what you're making from your job board quests.

Trying to understand negotiation and shops. If I understand correctly, at 47 negotiation I sell items for roughly (ignoring integer rounding) 24% of their value, while my pet (a brand new Juere Swordsman) with 21 negotiation sells them for roughly 14.8% of their value. Even with the 1.2x bonus from a specialized shop, he would only sell items for roughly 17.76% of their value.

Your selling price cap is 1/3 of item value (reached at 65 negotiation). Your pet's price cap is 1/2, so it can eventually surpass you. But it doesn't surpass 1/3 of item value 'til 124 negotiation, or 84 negotiation with the 1.2x specialized shop bonus. So until your pet reaches at least 84 negotiation, it is worse to sell items through your shop. I imagine this takes a ridiculous amount of time to get, even now that you can train their negotiation potential with bronze coins.

The only exception (other than selling rotten food with a food shop) is equipment, which has an additional 95% reduction in sale price when you sell to vendors. This doesn't apply to your pet, so your pet will always sell equipment for far more than you can. Because it doesn't make sense to sell anything other than equipment at lower levels, you should set it to blacksmith and take advantage of the 1.2x bonus. Therefore...

tl;dr make a blacksmith shop and vendor everything else, other shops aren't worth it for a very long time

Living in Noyel doesn't sound that good. Setting up all your buildings and trying to visit each one with increased travel time sounds terrible, and since it never rains in snowy areas (except for a very short moment after using Lulwystatue) gardening on your farm will be a lot more painful until you reach higher skill levels.
I prefer to live near Palmia and Yowyn. It's fast to travel between your buildings, near two cities with lots of quests, rain is nicer than snow.
Seven league boots and a garok'd aurora ring is better than living in the middle of a snowy hell.

I used to love using this for reference. Unfortunately this was made with "Small Castle" dimensions in mind, and now that the Palace is the best home available, the best I can do is pseudo-mimic it by trying to scale dimensions. I have an hard time creating an inferno 27 limb mutant in 1.66.
I think i should simply take the time to level up mining until i get houzanhou, every time i get killed due to opening rooms/taking a turn.

In inferno/loss mode, when you die it could always have been prevented. Once you get over the earlygame hump of getting skills/being weak/poor equipment, it becomes very unlikely that you die because the range of things you can do that are safe becomes bigger the stronger you get.

True. I lost a lot of loss PCs before finally getting a couple successful ones. I usually go straight to Yowyn and get gardening, then sit around doing harvest quests for a while. Hunting quests are safe too, if you die on them you will not lose your character (you just get ejected back into town). Little girl is your shield for a while, top priority is filling every equip slot on the two of you.

It basically goes like this:
-fill farms full of herbs (using multiple statue+gem stone of kumiromi)
-get a lot of platinum (can use scrolls of growth if you are filthy rich)
-get a lot of potential potions

Get your potentials high, find a way to easily train skills you want, such as letting yourself be attacked by a multi-handed asura to train evasion (which in turn trains dex). Eat a ton of herbed food/herbed curaria while visiting the trainer/quaffing potential potions when skill/attribute potentials get low. There's different options for every stat.

I don't recall when the breakthrough occurs, but at some point every job except Party Time gives up to 3 platinum, and the "new" jobs (Panic and Challenge) can give up to 10 I think.

Eternal force is pretty shit because only weapons with a certain number of enchantments qualify to be one, and with that many it is overwhelmingly likely most will be useless. Well the reason I bred indigo lobsters was to take out the offspring (interact with one and get to freely add it to your party) and then use the gene machine to give its gene to a pet. Because the lobsters are Lv61, you can quickly level a pet this way and grant it a lot of stats too.

Not as such; there's no "movement is blocked" condition. You could set the pet to used ranged attacks instead of melee while standing next to you, but I think the best option for you would be to equip a whip or chainsickle (on yourself, not your pet) and teach your pet the Distant Attack action. Shadow Step is also good, if your pet has enough Will to learn it.

I don't know about smartest but my method for potentials is to select a handful of skills and keep them at the highest potential possible with plat. Skills outside of the chosen are maintained passively through sleep or otherwise ignored. I do swap out skills based on what I need to level at the time though.

Beginning of the game I was only actively maintaining 1 or 2 skills. I put most of my plat into martial arts and any newly learned skill to get it to a decent potential level. Later on as the platinum came in I was able to maintain 3 to 4 skills at near 400 potential most of the time. Was mainly focusing on MA, tactics, casting, and literacy for a time but eventually swapped out literacy and even casting for a bit to level up my crafting skills to a decent level.

So I basically keep the skills I'm actively training at the time at really good potentials. I found this to work for me and later I had no choice in the matter. Like now I can't raise the two hand skill one whole point unless its potential is 300 or more. So I have to constantly maintain that skill's potential. It's the same for other very high skill levels so I'm kind of forced to only focus on a handful of skills anyways.

Well that's the way I've been doing it with platinum anyways. Blessed growth scrolls recover potential for all skills so once you have a lot of gold coming in you can take advantage of that to ease up on the platinum spending.

I wouldn't start over either in your case. It seems like you're doing alright financially at least since you've been able to get some property. Think it's best that you identify your problems and work on fixing them.

Keep in mind that certain races like the Golem start with a higher life attribute so their HP might be higher at a certain level due to that so I wouldn't let that get to you. Also ruby equipment can boost life as well as feats and hero cheese. If you feel like you're relying on your pets too much it might be best to shelve them for a bit and return to them later once your character is stronger.

Saya is the strongest pet in my party. Highest level, has more HP than the rest of them, and since her skills are further along than the others she does the highest damage out of the group currently. Akeno even though she has less HP can survive just as well as Saya though due to her metal bit but her damage isn't as high as Saya's due to lower skill levels.

Saya is about to reach lv 2000 so I should probably give her a gift or something. I do need to put her on a green tea diet though. She's gained some weight recently due to the blessed food she's had in her inventory.

What all do you need to update with photoshop for Beautify to get it to work with 1.71? I know I have to use gimp or something on the character, item, map1, and map2.bpms. Anything else?

Also is there any english documentation on what all the options in elona extender do? I always heard it backs up saves and adds commas to gold, but it seems there are quite a few more options that I have no clue what they are.

You don't need a specific program to update the files, you can do it even with paint, just use the one you are comfortable with. A pixel grid helps a lot.
The only easy to miss update I can think of right now is on Interface1, it got new element on the right side of the image, right below the fire circle (a new blue line, used for pet's MP display). I think bg_re16 got a whole new visual in 1.7.1, and the pack probably uses the old version.
While Extender have an english translation, all documentation about it is japanese only. Best you can do is test them one by one and use the ones you find more interesting.
I guess "Log Extender" function may confuse you a bit at first. It opens a separated window that will only show specific log lines based on keywords you add on the Config menu (adding "pregnant" as a keyword will send a copy of any line with that word to the new log window, like "you got pregnant"). It's a good way to not miss certain nasty debuffs and other events, and you may also customize the keyword's color and add a sound effect to it.
For backups, just use the default settings, and avoid using the "Incremental Backup for Every Save" feature because it may crash your game (no damage to your save file, at least in my experience, just very annoying).

Portraits are from "Scraps for Elona" site, I believe one of the facesets available in All-in-one Graphics Pack 1.66 have custom face1/face2 images using that style, but I believe the artist released more portraits so you have to add them on your own.

Ok, I thought that was about it as much as was changed. I updated Beautify for 1 of the 1.6 versions, but for the life of me couldn't remember all that I changed the last time or what new might be missing.
And thanks for the extender information! Log seems like it will be a life saver. One quick question though. You say to use the default back up save options, but that creates 100 backups before it starts replacing old saves if I am reading it right. Is there any downside to lowering that number to like 10? I might just be dumb but that seems a bit much even for redundancy.

Ah yes, you can change that if you want. I haven't touched my backup limit (because I used the "backup on every save" feature for some time before getting tired of the constant crashes) but I agree that 100 is a bit too much. The only "dangerous" part of the backup feature is the "backup on every save" option.
