Investing into crypto seems like it defeats the original purpose to empower people and make them less reliant on the system. The government is taking its cut through capital gains tax. As long as inflation continues, the value of silver will keep going up. The whole point of keeping silver / gold is that you can trade them for cash when shit hits the fan.

It's at 90, and it seems to be the new normal. 90+ have been breached 4 times already in the past 3 months. If we don't take into account the times it occured during the scamdemic, the only times 90 have been reached was in 1991, 1992 and 1993.

It's undeniable gold is vastly outperforming silver since 2016, to my greatest disappointment. Silver fundamentals are better, but only the lexes (as per written laws) matters in this day and age, and laws favor gold, since only gold is considered physical money by central bankers.

To reverse this trend the usus of silver (as customary law) would have to be backed by our central powers. If tomorrow few central bankers announced they started to stack silver alongside gold (as they used to), i've no doubt silver would catch up with gold within days, and by mimetism others CBs would follow. But how realistic is this scenario?

Our best hope of this occuring would probably be the chinese central bank at this point. First as a power move, to show to the world they now have the power to set their own rules, and second as a flex on the western world, to remind them China never forgot about the Opium wars' humiliations (back then China imposed a silver standard to the world, as they were net exporters and only accepted silver as payment for their tea/porcelain/spices/etc.., the G:S ratio even fell to 1:1 at some point because China was vaccuming all the silver in the world).
China always had a silver standard first, they accepted a gold one because we forced them to. To revert it to silver (or bimetalism most likely) would signal to the world the western parenthesis is over, and China is back at n°1.
And thirdly, because they themselves are the 3rd largest silver producers, and i wouldn't be surprised if their mountainous regions in the north hold more reserves than publicly announced.

But as long as the law only give recognition to gold, the gap will only widen and silver will be left in the rear mirror.

And since this "postal blockade" is true for the entire western world, russian numismatics skyrocketed in value in the EU and the US. Each time i put some silver rubles/kopeks on sale on ebay it's gone within 48 hours.

You don't risk anything, it's been demonetized a long time ago, legally it's the same as if you imported recent stuff. If i were you i'd do the opposite and only target imperial or soviet era silver, you'll make a killing once back home if you could get those for spot price in Russia.

>After effectively proving his own innocence, the government gave up on forfeiting Don’s savings. But the FBI did not return 110 gold coins stored in the box. In fact, the FBI’s inventory receipt for his box did not list any coins. But after Don sued, agents conveniently “discovered” 47 of the coins that had gone missing and returned them.

The absolute state of this government's racket...

In a way it's a good thing because this kind of shit makes people distrustful of both banks' vaults and the government.

Until central powers acknowledge silver as money, gold will outperform silver.
Until the 2000s both metals were moving more or less in tandem, but that's not the case anymore. Imho this decoupling not only is a result of paper silver, but also comes from boomers back in the early 2000s were the last generation to remember paying with silver (and not just in the US, all nations abandoned silver coinage at the same time).
But the current boomers are too young to remember paying with silver, so the metal vanished from the collective's mind as being a legal tender. Our government/banksters/industrials slowly brainwashed the people into considering silver as nothing more than a regular commodity, while still preserving gold's status as the only store of value.

t. 2000:1 ratio stacker.

nah, we paid with silver. It just wasn't worth much more than the clad coinage at the time. It circulated for at least a decade after 1964. Got pretty rare in the 80's though.

the bigger problem is that current boomers remember silver as money worth the same as money circulating at the time. And it's human nature to think money holds the same value as it ever did. We pretend prices went up, not that money went down.

We never had gold, it was illegal to spend and own prior to 1975. So we never had the illusion that gold was just money the same as any other metal. We always considered it treasure, and contraband. Silver we thought of as junk.

all it takes is a person to hold a silver coin in his hand to realize it's valuable
all this talk of "why silver" "bimetalism bad" none of it matters. we are HARD WIRED to love silver and ultimately use it as money.
just look at the periodic table. elements in a column are called being in the same family. Silver and Gold are connected by blood (and so is copper).
imagine the arrogance of thinking you can just undo thousands of years of history. the best analogy for silver is that it is a beachball being held underwater. and silver is held very very deep underwater. we all know what happens when you finally let go.

Very simple : it's gold value divided per silver value.
G:S ratio at 90 means you need 90oz of silver to buy 1oz of gold.

Thing is, this number is completely fucked. Historically the ratio was set at around 1:15 by most nations, as it is close to the natural concentration's ratio below ground.

But currently the mines' output ratio is set at 1:8 since over a decade now (we only extract 8oz of silver from the ground for each oz of gold). And since silver is a metal who aggregate toward the surface, the deeper we dig, the less we find, while gold is more evenly distributed in the earth's crust.

think about fractional reserve banking. bank has $500 in cash, and 10 people make an account with the bank, each person takes out a loan for the $500 in cash. since most spending occurs using credit, people dont have to withdraw the money to cash in hand to spend it, this means the bank can effectively loan out the money and keep the illusion of "yes you can withdraw the money in cash if you want" but this relies on this rarely occuring. see theres $5000 loaned out but $500 in real cash. Same with silver on the market, people trade with silver "credits" which can in theory be cashed out, but people rarely do so. There is say 1 ounce of silver in the vaults for every 100 ounces existing in the markets. this means silver in hand is worth a lot more when it comes to a physically useful product. Its a game of musical chairs where the music is silver "credits", when the music stops and people go to cash out, many people will be caught out since there just isnt enough silver.

Depends on your strategy.
Many silver stackers consider this 1:90 ratio to be pretty absurd considering the physical output ratio is sitting at 1:8, and think it's bound for a correction.

So, many frens -myself included- loaded up on silver expecting this ratio to tighten and come back down to a number more reflecting of reality.
But instead of a correction, the gap get wider every passing day. Which drives me nuts.

>> No.58188961

as for gold, the higher ratio is mainly a bit concerning for goldbuyers, it indicates overvaluation of gold in my view, some silverbugs see it moreso as silver being undervalued, ie when the ratio snaps back to what would make sense (1:15) is it a collapse of goldprice? or silver squeeze (silverbug opinion)?
paper silver and gold is meant to preempt silver price movements, but given how huge these markets are now, you need to consider that paper silver and gold are driving the market instead of speculating on it. So, investors spending huge amounts of money on what seems to be an attractive offer (1 billion ounces of silver) and because no one is actually having this much silver taken from their hands the price doesnt move, the supply of paper silver and gold is inflated a ton. This is a reason people say precious metals are artificially cheap. Whether this is doing anything specific for gold vs silver I dont know.

Initially put in £1,500 so I've lost half my money (with £300 of that in fees) and it's not really that fun. Checking the price every day, rushing to sell before a rug and what not.
I'm currently on about 300 oz silver and 12 oz gold and this was just pissing about money so not too worried about the losses.

I am. The bull case for silver is such that I get anxious even contemplating trying to wait for cheapies. I have enough where I should be waiting, but in the end where I think silver price is going it almost seems silly waiting for a few dollar pull-back. I don't think there is a need to FOMO right now, but going to the LCS every two weeks makes me happy so I am just gonna do it.

Don't you know the governments and glowies are taking 80% losses in their attempts to steal PMs from citizens.

The absolute brick wall is when interest on the debt exceeds all revenue. But the machine will collapse before that because foreign banks and governments are not stupid and will have bailed on the dollar long before that.

Dumb. Gold and silver are catching up to inflation and global turmoil.

saving what you have from being stolen or dissapeared isnt a net zero achievement. especially in times where most lose it all, to simply have what you had is a huge leg up.

That's just emotional DCA, hardly a bad strategy. I find the more I have the less reactionary and impatient I am, though. I have my seat at the table, I won't cry if there's a bit less gravy on the plate because I waited for the boat to come back around.

This is the weirdest and most nonsensical boomer line I’ve ever heard.

It is MUCH easier to just counterfeit dollars than gold. That's why passable counterfeit gold is extremely rare and there are perhaps $200 million counterfeit paper dollars in circulation. Criminals are lazy and risk-averse.

And counterfeit dollars are going to explode once China dumps its dollar holdings. They will almost certainly flood the world with counterfeit dollars when they make their play for world currency dominance. I know I would. Fiat money is extremely vulnerable in this way.

It's a bit of a gamble, but if you're already secure you're not getting fucked either way and you could ultimately come out ahead. In that position, time is your friend. If you've got a small stack it makes sense to get while the getting is good.

bimetalism is awesome. it allowed farmers and laborers to BTFO bankers by pulling their own money out of their own land.
