I used to go on /ic/ but I think I understand what you're saying. There's a lot of opportunities to make money in art, but it's still a hyper saturated industry with a lot of competition. For most people who's art isn't good enough you have to draw degenerate shit to have a chance to make money.

Only the top 1% can achieve something like that. I don't have any stats to back that up, but I'm pretty sure you can check the patreon numbers.
