Depends on your definition of scary, I’d say spooky is the better way to describe it. There’s hardly any jumpscares or anything but the atmospheric effects combined with the erratic ghost behavior can make me play with the lights on. Especially when there’s a “red light” event or one where the ghost shatters the light.

If you’re looking for a scary experience, the game Demonologist may be your better bet for now. It’s apparently way more focused on horror while phasmophobia is currently at it’s core just a game of investigation. Haven’t played it myself though so I can’t confirm. But I know that the Phasmo devs are working on a “Horror 2.0” update to make the game actually frightening, they just have a few updates to come out before then. The next one being an update that changes level progression, resetting everyone’s levels.
