Sounds like reasonable advice. But man even hearing stories about it going wrong just makes it an even more difficult decision. Like, if you are already pretty successful doing what you are already doing should you really make such a risky move to change the tone of your content like that? What is difficult is judging whether your current audience even wants it in the first place. If you don't want to take that kind of risk, there's nothing wrong with sticking to what you're already doing and what you're good at. Like I said, yumes and fujos don't need to be fed, we make our own food. It's okay to test the waters if you want to try it and then go by feedback but if you feel it won't do well, then there's no need to do it at all. Movie watchalongs are considered BFE even though every vtuber does it, but the feeling of watching something with someone are left to the imagination and that can feed yumes for weeks.

This is a really excellent point and my best advice for this would be to encourage feedback from people. The niji males are a perfect example of this kind of situation. Their viewership noticeably drops whenever a female invades the stream but if the guy were to ask his chat "hey do you want to see me collab with [female]" they'll all say yes with no hesitation. Let your audience know they can say no or disagree with things. Granted, a lot of niji chats are filled with ESL and underage twitter trannies, especially Luxiem (I say this as a Luxiem hako oshi, I love the boys but I hate their chats, even though it's improved a lot over the months). You can never truly know what's 100% right, you can't please everyone, you'll always get opposing opinions on something, and sometimes you'll never know who's being earnest and who's saying it just to "make people seethe" or to white-knight. The best thing you can do is encourage honesty and constructive criticism and tell your audience not to confuse any of that with hate. If you're still getting mixed opinions, then come up with a compromise or do what you feel is right.
