Have they invented like a FreeMcBoot for Xbox yet? I have an unhacked OG Xbox but I think it's a 1.4 model and I can't be fussed going through the motions to hack it to play one obscure Xbox game I want to play that I can't find anywhere else

Just put a modchip in it, you can buy one for less than $10 with firmware preinstalled on Aliexpress, the installation process is simple as well (you can thank M$ for that)

Pardon my retard question but I have to solder it right? (I have shakey hands and am prone to fucking things up).

just rip open whatever old piece of broken electronics you have and practice soldering for half an hour

make sure to do it in a ventilated room and have a fan blow the fumes away from you tho. there are excellent vids on youtube about it

There is a way to softmod an original Xbox but it's kind of a pain now because you have to buy an adapter which isn't hard to find but also a usb flashdrive from around that time which is a bitch to find these days. I had to use my PSP to do it.

>>10502364
you can also do the IDE hotswap softmod which just requires some screwdrivers and an old XP shitbox PC with IDE header

You can do the whole thing with a gameshark adapter (assuming it comes with its cable) and Splinter Cell. The flash drive is just one method seeing as it's just about moving a save file over.

Oh sweet I didn't know about that. I haven't softmodded an xbox in about a decade so I'll try this out in the future.

My man I literally have hand tremors and I can still solder this shit. It's extremely easy if you have any practice, it's a hell of a lot easier than welding.
If you want some advice brace yourself against a desk, table, whatever to help stabilize yourself and practice on random junk from goodwill before you mess with the seXbox. These aren't mega tiny chips micrometers apart but old school fatties with plenty of room for amateurs.

Soldering an og Xbox is pretty easy, but use a good soldering iron. Don't use some $15 radioshack POS.

is a soldering gun the same as a soldering iron

Anon is a manlet who's literally shaking right now. Nothing can help him but the sweet embrace of tidepod. Also odds are someone will lose an eye if he starts waving around a hot pointy thing. Do you want to be responsible for encouraging that?

lol. no.

Guns are generally shaped like, well, a gun, and more powerful. Also, since they keep generating heat as long as you hold the trigger they're technically soldering assault weapons.

Is there a practical difference between a hardmod, a softmod, IDE hotswap mod in this day and age or should I just get Splinter Cell and an adapter? I was just going to burn DVDs until the laser shits itself.

I wouldn't recommend it because it will probably shit itself sooner rather than rather. That's 20-year old hardware with moving parts we're talking about. Just softmod using Splinter's Cell and IDE hotswap (none of those things are mutually exclusive). Make sure to replace the PATA HDD with a newer SATA HDD (or maybe even a SATA SSD, considering how cheap they've become) with PATA adapter and set the encryption key to all 1s or something else you can remember easily to restore it to a different HDD easily in case things go south. That way you can load ROMs from HDD and your Xbox doesn't become a brick when the DVD drive or HDD fail.

Thanks for the advice, man.

IDE Hotswap looks simple enough and I'll probably go that route but just to consider my options, if I used this Xbox controller female USB to Xbox controller plug adapter and plugged it into a controller port, formatted right and with the right kind of USB stick (or drivedroid), it would recognize it as a memory card wouldn't it? - or does it need to go in through a memory card USB slot adapter?
