Collecting spirit orbs perfectly during the stages is pretty tough, as is boss grazing, and they'll only get harder in the rest of the game. But that first thing ruins it.

I am loving this. Although the stages seem a bit long for me, I'm not sure why. Still, that's a good thing! I really like Kyouko, she's really cute.

If he had good themes don't you think he would have included them in the demo's stages. The demo is the selling point after all. If the purpose of this Touhou was to attract newcomers he's not going to get a lot with this game. IN attracted a lot of newcomers because it was easy (on normal) and had some good themes.

Not even IOSYS could come up with a catchy enough moeblob theme to save this hunk'a dookie. ZUN dropped the ball with this one. We waited almost two years for this?

The laptop that I've been using the play the game has shit music out-put, so I must take that into consideration when commenting on the music... so far it seems a bit plain; not bad, but nothing that has stolen my attention from the game-play.

Not that it matters, six months from now on we will all love it anyway. Isn't that how it always is? It took me some time to really like UFO's music, for example.

What I don't like is that there are life and bomb fragments hidden behind danmaku at the top of the screen which you can't gather without trance AND without having played often enough to know that they are there. In other words, the less lifes you have, the less life fragments you can collect.

Also 10/10 for the first life, then 0/15... I doubt you'll get many if the next one needs 20 fragments, unless ZUN does like in UFO and puts the fragments everywhere so you can't see shit anymore.

What the game needs is: let you trance off 1 gauge, remove the death trance (or let you deathbomb through it), kill the spirit gain when trancing during a boss, and let you cancel a trance so you don't void spellcards when you don't want to.

Life/bomb gain is weird as hell but I think letting you trance manually off of 1 would make them easier to capitalize on.

Let me clear things first a bit, the ''racism against youkais'' in Gensokyo is more of a game more than treat them like shit at all times. There aren't any grudges and the youkais cooperate with the heroine after being defeated.

Now, with that, Marisa has the same ''beat youkai up'' sense as Reimu, even though most people have the image of Reimu being the single oppresor of youkai, if you actually read the dialogue/books you'll notice that youkai beating is more of a casual sport than anything else, that only happens whenever there's an incident or particular intentions.

Oh hey, this game's Marisa route on stage 2 shows exactly that (as does Sanae's and Reimu's), now I won't need to quote back to other games/books.
