4300200 No.4300200 [Reply] [Original]

How introverted are you /jp/? I rarely speak more than ten or so words a day and that's only when my parents talk to me. How can I get a job in the real world?

>> No.4300207

People scare me.

I have not spoken more than a few words in 6+ years

I'm starting to lose grasp of English

>> No.4300217

As is? You can't. That amounts to a serious mental problem, not just being "introverted" (which is not a currently accepted psych term), one which they can now treat with medicine as a matter of fact.

Sometimes I forget words. I'll know what I'm trying to say, but I just can't remember the word for it. They're common words too.

When I suddenly do find myself in a conversation for some reason, my mouth sometimes forgets how to move along with my thoughts, and I sound retarded.

>> No.4300226

I used to be very introverted and never spoke more than ten or so words a day to my parents and never spoke a word online but I have started to be more outspoken after I suddenly broke the habit by joining a Ventrilo server and now I speak perhaps a whole conversation aloud every week or so and I also post more online.

Don't worry about getting a job in the real world. If you're just thrown in it can be fairly terrible but it's almost like immersion therapy. After maybe a year you will start to adjust though that year may cause you to be extremely pessimistic.

>> No.4300244

I am somewhat introverted in the sense that I very few actual friends, and by few I mean two. I go to school four to five days a week, and even if I don't socialize much there, I have a few conversations now and then.

As for getting a job, you would probably need education, experience and contacts in order to get one.

You can do something from home I guess. I'm introverted in a sense that I don't interact with people unless I need to even in the workplace, I'm fluent when I do converse though.. it's just that I don't usually want to.

>> No.4300254

I can still be quite loquacious around others and, as I do some writing on the side, my vocabulary is required to be broad. It is the case, rather, that I do not have a strong inclination to candidly talk with people with whom I have no reason to talk.

>> No.4300268

I've started talking to more people because I go to college
I see the same 6 or so people all of the time 4 days a week so eventually I ended up talking to them. A few them are not idiots and like me so I plan to talk to them more and probably end up playing video games with them.
Last week I talked so much my jaw hurt. It's been a very long time since I've done that.

>> No.4300267

>>4300241
If you're already pessimistic, you'll become even more pessimistic. I have a job now after not speaking to anyone online or offline but the single parent I live with, only speaking to him with, "Okay," perhaps thrice a day, for about five years. It was difficult for the first year and I still am very nervous. I only work two days a week, for six hours, and I have to say that even though I'm more capable socially, I don't really care. I suppose I quickly caught on, though. It sounds rather ungrateful to say I don't really care that I have this (really very modest) job but I still feel as apathetic before but less fulfilled. I thought maybe I'd start to enjoy human interaction more but it reminds me how much I dislike it and I would rather have the fear of dependence than approach independence.

That's not introversion, that's a serious problem.

I can talk all I want around people I know and I can easily give presentations and participate in seminar/discussion classes and whatnot.

But I don't like leaving my room, I don't like opening the window, and I can't stand parties.

Don't be stupid. Only speaking a couple of words aloud a day is not a problem. I used to only speak some words a day but I'd talk a reasonable amount on imageboards (maybe five posts every two days) and when I needed to get into the real world, while it was unnerving and harrowing and difficult, I managed. It's very common to be very nervous talking to people and very frightened and then eventually 'growing' out of it. Just because some people 'grow' out of it by the time they enter junior high doesn't mean that older people have a "serious problem" because they haven't 'grown' out of it yet.

The only people I speak to these days are occasionally my family on the phone, and a cashier to mention that I don't need a bag or the like.
When I get very involved in something it's not unusual for me to start talking to myself out-loud, however; but it's nothing more than voicing my internal thought process. A few times I've caught myself absentmindedly blurting out "I agree" or "you're wright/wrong" out on the street, though.
