25639165 No.25639165 [Reply] [Original]

Mined a bunch of bitcoin in 2011, then stopped and completely forgot about it. I still have the same computer but I can’t find the files, because i’ve reinstalled in once or twice since, also the files are probably overwritten.
How do i cope with the fact that I have millions in bitcoin which I can never accsess? All I have now is a measly 400 link stack. I just want to make it bros.

There are companies who can help you recover files even if you've formatted the drive once or twice. Formatting doesn't destroy the files, overwriting (multiple times) does. Your bitcoin wallet file containing your private key might still be alive and well.

Don't tell the company that you're looking for your private BTC key though.

Lel. I was so stupid to forget the password for my BTC wallet. To this day don't remember it. But fucking hell, not backing up the wallet... Welp, maybe you can use a forensic service. or maybe just start with one of those restoring tools. but yeah, if it's a hard drive and you overwrote it multiple times there's a good chance it's gone.

The only chance you have right now is to turn off the computer right now and never use the HDD's again (because it may not yet be overwritten) until you have exhausted all measures of recovering it.

This. I'd boot linux from a pendrive, and then use some recovering software to check if you can find it. Alternatively, if you had the wallet, there's means of reconstructing it by using the phrase.

It's really hard to actually delete anything.
To actually wipe something you record 0's over it many, many, many times.
You might have a shot, but will need a professional.
Yes you risk them stealing your keys, but you've clearly got no idea how to get it anyway.
But that is why you go to a proper company, that you can visit, that has a reputation on the line.
I guess you don't know your public address so you can't monitor the wallet?
