You could even see it during the kill race, when directly after that loss streak, the game gave Selen one actual good match, where she instantly got hyped up and had fun. The whole system exists to create those experiences artificially.

Shooting a guy isn't a kill in Apex. It's a knockdown. You need to either kill the entire team or bleed out the guy on the floor to get that kill. You're not going to succeed at either on your own unless the enemies blatantly fuck up or are well below your skill level.
Of course if Selen would jumpmaster, she could avoid some of it, but that's the insecurities at work again.
