Nijicure edition

Want to follow in the footsteps of Holocure, Rocksuki, Delivering Hope, Niji VNs, and other fan games? Want your oshi to notice you and play your shit? But you have no idea how to draw or fucking script?!

Or are you just envious that your great idea never became real while half-assed fan games got more attention?!!

Then come into this place where we show off our ideas, discuss how to develop fangames, playtest each other's games, and hopefully get our oshis to play them!

Alright I have around 3+ years of gamedev experience from developing and publishing games on Steam, here's some tips for those getting started.

1.Start SMALL, start simple

Your first game should be very short, around 5-10 minutes long kind of short. Once you have more experience finishing games (even if they are small) you can gradually work up to making bigger titles. One of the biggest mistakes you can do when starting out is burning yourself out with a big project that's way out of your scope, trust me, I made that mistake too.

2. Don't know how to code? No problem!

There's tons of engines you can use to make games that require no code, you can make visual novels, RPG's, platformers without knowing code. Don't be ashamed of using engines such as Renpy or RPG Maker, you can make something really charming with them.

3. Art is really important

Especially for these kind of games, art will really give it charm, if you can't draw, you can probably find someone who's willing to help, after all we are talking about free fangames here. The artist's style matching the game is way more important than their technical skill as an artist, if that makes sense. Again since these are free fangames it shouldn't be hard finding an artist who's willing to help provided you're not a giant asshole and your game's scope is small.

Excellent advice though on all fronts

i was about to commend you for tying to do something instead of just begging, but holy fuck that op is just sad
to do list:
>find other peoples shit
>find other peoples shit
>find people that will do shit for us
not even a modicum of taking the initiative except for copy pasting someone elses op. If you want to do something AT LEAST say that you will make a fucking pastebin of shit provided in the thread for your "to do list." Call people to action and set up at least a semblance of a goal to get shit moving. This is your fucking problem, you beg and wait for someone else to do shit for you instead of putting the smallest amount of effort possible. Game development is a long process, even for small projects. Decisions and actions need to be taken, first steps are important to get started (go figure).

So here is my advice and a free bump:
DO SOMETHING. Anything, literally anything, just to get shit off the ground. Stop waiting for other people to do shit for you just because you made a thread/bumped it.

Nijiniggers can't even clone the simplest of games? Jesus...
You know what made Holocure quickly explode in popularity despite being also a clone of a very simple game that had gotten popular? The fact the dev just released a playable demo from the start, instead of coming to /vt/ to post a fucking reddit screenshot of all things.

here is an advice from a senior:
if your game looks even similar to what you imagined before you even started, you failed in every aspect of game development.
second biggest advice i can give you is:
you can edit a bad game, but not an empty page. Just fucking go for it.
