Nope, but her voice was kill for a while and still kinda is. She had nodules on her vocal chords at the end of last year. Took a break for a while, came back, voice didn't really heal up and now she's not streaming regularly. If I'm not mistaken she started seeing a speech therapist to train herself to drop the burikko voice. She's still going to the studio for recordings though, so who knows when she'll be streaming regularly again.

Maruyama and sukodawa to me aren't Marine at her best, they're a bit too formatted and railroaded, like they feel a little bit more like Marine playing a role given to her compared to how we see her nomally. I like that sukodawa actually involves conversation but the prompts and topics are often not great, and there are often dud segments. I would rather she just stream.

I don't want to think badly of our Senchou but sometimes I have a sneaking suspicion that she prefers to spend more time in the studio recording and on other projects than doing streams because those are simply more profitable for her than the money from superchats and archive ads, let's add that Senchou has always liked doing voice acting work more and that's the reason why she prefers to do one more than the other, plus Marine has already reached a point of fame and fan base that anything she does will sell quickly without her having to interact much with her audience.

remember she used to do a lot of zatsudans? And they were really good too, when she started out she was doing them all the time and they were charming and funny and it's a big part of how she built her reputation as having immense トーク力, as the person many people thought of first when they thought of vtubers with strong conversational ability

well, in the last year she's done exactly two explicit public zatsudans, one was a last-minute change she was frustrated that she had to do and she only did it specifically because she wasn't able to prepare what she actually wanted to do in time for that stream slot, and even then she spent half of it random totsuing rurudo, and the other was when she came back from break and therefore actually had stuff to talk about and also had a prepared comic to bide some time with as well.

She just doesn't feel as confident anymore in terms of having something to say. Part of that I think is that she knows full well what her reputation is, and what the expectations are going into a Marine zatsudan. She knows that people say that's her thing, that's her draw, that Marine's career as a vtuber is built in large part on this idea that she's someone who can be particularly entertaining just by talking. And I think that scares her a little bit, now that she doesn't feel like a bottomless well, now that she's finding herself repeating stories and opinions she's told before.

Obviously Marine still talks plenty in her streams, she still ends up doing hours long red akasupa readings that are not really all that different to those marshmallow zatsus she used to do, and she does drawing streams where she's talking the entire time, and her mengens are basically all zatsus. And they're good, because at the end of the day she's still Marine, and Marine can still talk good. The difference I think with those is that the spotlight isn't on her ability to talk anymore - expectations are different if she's in the middle of drawing where she's busy, or reading superchats where she's being dutiful, or in a mengen where the idea is that she can relax in relative privacy and intimacy with her most devoted fans. She gets to talk without the same pressure of knowing that people are expecting that explicitly and primarily.

But all of that is because she thinks the well has run dry. She's used up all her life experiences and anecdotes. デッキ破壊 is one way she's put it, like she's playing a competitive card game and she has no cards left in her deck because she's already drawn them all. And it's something that contributes to making her nervous and unconfident when it comes to streaming.

Personally, the fact that she feels like that scares me. It's the kind of sentiment that does make me think that maybe she wants to quit soon.

I hope one day Marine can gain more confidence in how sustainable her streams can be in the longer term. And that she's not actually right to be anxious about it and that quality will genuinely suffer as time goes on, that she can still maintain something she can feel proud about and that people still love.

Jesus man at least put a picture next to your bible, but anyway I agree with you on some points, I still think Marine already used all the important material in her first zatsudans and probably doesn't want to do more for fear of treading on the territory of her private life which is understandable, but I also think the pandemic and eventual quarantine crippled her main source of stories. Being cooped up in her apartment and only going straight out to the studio to record means she doesn't have much to tell about her day, in contrast in her first year, apart from talking about her past and her family she also talked about a lot of things that happened to her during the day or what she did during the week/weekend, this was a continuation of what she used to stream in her previous life, where she would tell what happened to her in the office where she worked and sometimes she would do it as a way to vent after a stressful or bad day, besides telling what she did in her free time and her hobbies.
I really hope that when the pandemic is definitely over (if it ever ends) Marine will have more opportunities to do more than just go out and record, hang out with other holos and go back to her apartment, one of the reasons why her stream from when she came back from her second break was interesting was because of all the things she did in the free time she had, like practicing for the sankisei concert or visiting her family in her hometown or reconnecting with her high school crush.
I hope that when she returns to streming regularly she will have several stories prepared of what she did in the time she was away.

I don't know exactly how much the pandemic was a factor, honestly. Japan has stayed mostly pretty open for business in general, they haven't had any particularly hard lockdowns and the only major things that got cancelled were live events with large crowds, which turns out to have sucked a lot for holos in general since performing for a crowd is so much better than not, but not so much changed in terms of daily life.

Earlier on she missed some off-collab opportunities back when they were still bothering not to do that for pandemic reasons, but otherwise I'm not sure she was actually living life that differently to how she would have otherwise.

The problem is that Marine is very perfectionist, she always tries to make her content as varied as possible and tries as much as possible to detach herself from the internal trends of hololive except when she is forced to do the same as the other holos in order to not be left behind, like when she joined the Ark fever, undertale, resident evil and recently pokemon, but other than that Marine always wants to do original things even if that leaves her more exhausted than just doing a normal streaming, that's what I like the most about her and that's what made me follow her faithfully but also as a fan it's a bit frustrating that in her attempt to diversify her content sometimes she has to take several days of preparation for some new activity she wants to try, leaving us in the dark.
And with her throat problems Im afraid to say this but her future in hololive is uncertain, the bad thing for her is that if her voice gets fucked up now permanently she wouldn't be able to do much outside of hololive either unless she gave herself completely to creating art but again given her perfectionism she's not very efficient at that either as even she admits to not being very good (which I disagree with) or fast at it.

Maruyama 2 days of recording per month, and lets throw a rest day after that so 4 days in total
SKDW 2 days per month, day rest after each so 4 days
8 days of mandatory studio work and rest
average month has 30 days, 30-8=22
22 days to choose streaming, or studio work
Lets be fair and throw a rest day between those too, so 11 days of voice work, and generous split would be 5 streams 6 days at studio

we are currently averaging 3 streams per month...(DX8 streams count as 1 because they were all back-to-back)

I don't want to sound like someone high on copium but no one has fucked up their throat as bad as Senchou, of course Aki had to have surgery but unlike Senchou she doesn't spend most of her time in the studio recording so it's only natural that her recovery would be quicker.
What we are debating here is not whether her throat is fucked up or not but that she doesn't do her best to heal properly and it's a vicious cycle with her because she recovers a little, wants to go back to her normal activities, abuses her voice, gets her throat screwed up again, rests to recover, recovers a little and the cycle continues.
It's not until she realizes that following this cycle is ruining her, thats why many of us beg her to rest completely but she simply refuses to do so and sometimes even gets annoyed with all the concernfagging.

See, in those threads people were shitting on Haachama for going to school, for not simply streaming full-time since she could make a lot of money by doing it and live confortably. People were shitting on her because they thought she wanted out of streaming and just wanted to live a normal life. In the end, turns out it was false, Haachama somewhat came back and streams with new cool ideas and projects. What’s to say Marine won’t do the same? Sure, her throat isn’t a dealbreaker and she could stream more. Maybe she’s burnt out and needs time. Maybe she’s actually being cautious this time and doesn’t want to risk it. After all, recording in a studio with a bunch of professionals who will respect your boundaries is a lot safer than sitting alone at home and having to entertain thousands of people at the same time no matter what. Another thing to keep in mind is that her voice is her bread and butter, no matter if she stays in Hololive or not. I doubt that she’ll retire from making content even if she quits Hololive, so making sure her voice is fine is of the upmost priority. At the end of the day, doomposting serves no purpose. There is literally not a single instance where /vt/ has been right about anything. Us coming up with excuses and explanations for her absence is pointless, because we don’t know shit. I honestly don't see it that way. I also wish she streamed more, but I don't think she's depriving us of streams out of malice or even for a lack of interest in the job. I think she's just anxious about her throat issues, the possibility of surgery and probably a myriad of other things we don't know about. It probably took her a little while to cope with Coco graduating and her break last year clearly bummed her out. Her sister didn't end up moving in with her which probably did a number on her. By her own admission, she was spending entire days in bed until she started giving us some Hololive fanart recently. I'd have to guess that if she's very close with Rushia that she's probably been stressed about that lately, too; probably even if they aren't close.

I do think the Coco situation is playing in her head yet but not to the extreme that she is still mulling outright graduation. Rather, I think Marine is envious of Coco and others from the company with active RMs who are able to dabble in their own creative projects outside of the Cover/Hololive umbrella.

Marine, for better or for worse, slid all her chips on the table into Hololive's pile and it has paid off handsomely monetarily for her but maybe not so much for her mentally and creatively. Its obvious that even when she isn't streaming, her days are still full of Hololive this and Hololive that; be it Maruyama, Sukodawa, sponsorships, various lessons or other voice work. She eats, breaths and shits Hololive 24/7 meanwhile management has been pissy about drawing red lines due to various incidents caused by either Marine or others. As much as Marine has prior black company experience, I'm sure this shit still doesn't sit well with her when she wants to express herself freely without worrying about management giving her slaps on the wrists.

I think right now Marine is desperate to have, not fully, but to a certain extent the same creative freedom that Coco and other RMs have by being able to hop across the line between Hololive content and non-Hololive content. it's pretty dead, they're mostly talking about how much money marine might make after someone mentioned they watched a hikakin video where some gaming streamer he was collaborating with bought a $20 million dollar wristwatch, and they went off talking about a bunch of stuff like tax writeoffs and back of envelop calculations on how much she's making (one dude reckons at least $1 million a year even after youtube and cover cuts, and taxes)

otherwise pretty generic stuff, somebody said they wanted a late night drinking stream and somebody replied mentioning the calli English stream but said they probably won't be drinking, somebody said they were jealous of people who get to talk to marine today

somebody said marine's situation is 1. can't stream much because throat is fucked, 2. her very regular chat partner in kanata has rona and 3. her genmate is still in the middle of being embroiled in controvery, someone replieed to them saying maybe since kanata's throat is probably fucked too rn from rona I bet they're chatting a lot

and that's pretty much it for posts for the day, a bit less interesting than usual

the only issue would be if her contract is ripping her off even harder than we already have reason to think, but I would hope that isn't the case
