It's funny, because for all the melodrama over characters and lore, they're hardly ever relevant to what the chuuba is ACTUALLY doing- their best. The 'kayfabe' of vtubers basically amounts to a person putting their best face forward as much as they can. But it is THEIR face.

But serious mode breaks past even that flimsy facade.
Pekora still cries, because the only person she couldn't hide her love and desire to make her fans happy was from herself, and couldn't handle the pain of feeling as if she failed them.
Rushia still sends out those membership posts, wishing into the night with tears in her eyes, worried about what she'll never have have and about what she does but is scared of losing.
Noel still cries out into the online void of her RM's Twitter for a connection so that she isn't alone with her heartbreak.
Lamy still reels with loneliness and guilt, and the insecurity that comes with it.
And so on, and on, and on.

That build-up was all for this: if she's not a liar, and she claims to earnestly love her chat in those moments where the mask has dropped, then she no longer fits neither #1 nor #2. There is only one proper interpretation left.
