That's a good point actually. I never thought about the gears in the hairpin. It doesn't make sense for them to be "steampunky" so they must be a nod to the watch, and it that case what's so special about the watch (obviously we now know it's a time travel gadget). So yeah that's pretty interesting to think about. Supposedly the only thing Ame requested for her design was the inclusion of the syringes.
