Now imagine you spend months getting flirty with a coworker and the entire time you have no idea how much of it is just kayfabe, pandering, or a joke and how much of it is serious because you have no reference for a relationship like this and your own feelings are just as difficult to interpret. Imagine if that escalates to an in-person meeting, and that in-person meeting escalates to in-person flirting, and then that escalates too and you realize all the jokey flirting you've done was way more than just a joke and you may or may not legitimately want to get gay with your coworker. Then after a whole night of escalating, your coworker more or less drops a bombshell question on you while you're in bed together and you have to figure out whether that's an open invitation or just another joke. After thinking about it for a long while, you just decide to go for it but instead of getting a confirmation to continue they seem to either have gone to sleep while you were hesitating or they're purposely ignoring you and you completely misread the situation, so you stop and just try to sleep it off. Now imagine you wake up the next day and they start talking about "what happened" last night and the realization dawns on you that they were awake the whole time. You yourself didn't know that they wanted you to continue so you're stuck horrified for a good while that you might have accidentally crossed a line and done something really bad. This only gets worse when they immediately bring it up on stream in front of thousands of people. Of course, later everything was fine and it turns out she was cool with it, but the dread from that morning was something you'll never forget and that experience ended up once again warping your views on relationships. Even if you really like the person, there's really no way that you'll go through an emotional experience like that and be able to interact with them the same way again. It only gets more disconcerting when they clearly didn't think what you did was a big deal and brushed it off as a lighthearted story while you traumatized yourself over what you saw as one of the most damning moments of your life.
