I watch them for talent. Or personality. Or entertainment. Or content. And I've found quite a lot of chuubas that meet my criteria. Most just lack things I've mentioned. Looks are what first attract you to somebody. People are attracted initially to vtubers because of their cute looks as well. Keep that "initially" in mind. If you want a long-lasting relationship you can't just be sexually attracted to each other, your personalities need to align, or you need a particularly strong pimp hand. But you can't slap a 2D bitch over the screen, so that doesn't apply here.
It's the same concept as anime characters and "waifus", really. When every anime girl is cute and good-looking, how do you pick one specifically to be yours? Well all that can really make her stand out is her personality and talents. When everybody is cute then cute isn't good enough. And that's why Petra went from the most-hyped of NijiEN to the absolute bottom with shit ciews. A cute design is good for raising interest, the personality and talent is what makes people stay. So to say "y-you just want a cute girl!" isn't really wholly accurate. People want a cute girl, AND a whole lot more.
