Cover wants to be an IP management business. It's true for all forms of entertainment that the real money is in advertisement. To tap into that you need IPs with high "liquidity": i.e. you want something that's only a name and maybe a broad concept. If you do, you're not limited by mediums and content forms, and can mix and match your IPs with ads however you want to.
Any ad deal requires a huge amount of background work. Now multiply that by JP business process autism and the girls are probably getting nightmare schedules full of meetings, meetings and more meetings.

Meetings suck, but having to be in one every once in a while is a far cry from a "nightmare schedule". I believe the "hates shilling merch" rrat more, since it just lines up with the statement that Fauna likes doing idol things but has disagreements with management. I think she's smart enough to realize that to do 3D stage stuff and recordings, meetings are a necessary evil, and I really can't fathom that moving away from corpo makes those activities easier.
On the other hand, I can see Fauna hating the idea of shilling merch, just from the perspective of it seeming wasteful.

Completely agree, but also don't underestimate the ability of corporations to brainwash and groom lowest common denominator consumers. If anything, VTubing has been less slop-tastic than most JP entertainment, and now it's being pulled closer to the average.

Streaming services are ridiculously expensive in terms of capital costs and need ridiculous scale to be profitable. Youtube actively loses money from people streaming on it, that's why they it's still in many regards very much behind twitch: they just don't want to promote it (until they wanna make a move to take the niche over from twitch I guess).
Still a better idea than the metaverse though.
