You're not wrong about it being similar in nature, but there's a few differences between the two which I think are fundamental differences that make one more enjoyable.

One has to do with how reddit functions in the first place. The most popular and upvoted shit gets to the top. This means most of the time, it's just going to be reaction images, memes, etc. Things that I can look at myself for a quick laugh, and contain no substance. Marshmellows on the other hand, can either be curated by the streamer themselves, or be completely random shitposts. There are times where you get a terrible marshmellow, and the streamer can just pass on it, or it's up to them to make it as entertaining as possible.

A second difference is who the target audience is. Marshmellows are meant to be directed at the streamer themselves, while reddit memes are meant for the community. One feels like a collection of quick content that they just react to, and the other feels like a nice q&a with shitposts in between.

Anon is talking out of their ass, of course the company would want English speaking viewers especially now that Hololive blew up outside of Japan and showed there's a real market out there. They don't NEED them, but it's a big pie and obviously getting at least some slice of it wouldn't be unwelcome even if it's not the main course.

I think they just don't really know how to go about it is all. They're a mammoth, big and strong but not very flexible. Even Cover's own western success happened kind of out of nowhere with the pandemic and some clips happening to go viral hard at the right time, not by some genius company maneuvering. AR, not VR. AR headsets are much more ergonomic and don't block your vision, allowing for projection of 3D objects "in the real world". AR is a rising offshoot implementation of our current VR tech; VR headsets are more of an awkward dead-end development, stuck at the clumsy "two screens plastered to your face" stage until someone cracks the human brain and BCIs.

You'll have to provide examples, but I'm guessing you mean the angles of movement the models can handle, which is dependent on rigging. A good bunch of nijis are still on older L2D models with rigging more limited than what you see from experienced artists today. Even Mito uses an old model, possibly by choice due to the abundance of outfits and hairstyles tied to it, which would all have to be rerigged for a "2.0" update. Some, like Ars, have had post-debut upgrades, but I think Nijisanji on the whole considers the Niji3D option to be the better investment for the future. It does real-time limb and finger tracking on smartphone hardware, and ties in much better with Ichikara's AR/VR ventures.

Yes, Ichikara could make it so they don't snap back to some position if the tracking software loses the limb. What I think is happening is the tracking misses the arm then it snaps back to the default position, so instead of doing that it could freeze the limb in place until the tracking finds it again, or maybe it could slowly go back to the default position, but I don't know how feasible that would be without premade animations.

The mouth is too limited in movement, the eye tracking is...sometimes there? I can't tell. Sometimes it moves, often it doesn't. God fucking knows what's happening with those eyebraws, although that's less the tracking and just a shitty 2D jobs. Eyebrows don't move like that.

The Hololive ones seem bad in some completely different ways to me. There is too much freedom of movement such that it goes way beyond the bounds of how much the original drawing can be change and still look decent? Half the angles they can get themselves into the face looks like its on a completely separate plane to the rest of the head or maybe better described like its an obviously flat face attached to a neck that looks normal. And the movement seems too sensitive to me somehow, like they just move an unnatural amount, almost as if the system exaggerates it.

Just like the other anon said, the movement in the Hololive models seems really exaggerated. I tried copying their head movements, and I think it is not something that I can do for a prolonged period of time. Also, the Hololive model only works with cutesy characters. I can't imagine watching a Maimoto-Rikiichi stream with them headbanging all the time.

Some models are better than others at mouth tracking. Look at Lulu or Himawari for example. It also has to do with how their phones are setup.
Sometimes their mics block their mouths from being tracked, or they're not facing the camera properly.
And Hololive's live2d doesn't even have good mouth tracking in the first place so I'm not sure where you're coming from.
