What's better, overly-complex character lore or overly-simple character lore?

>> No.9071650

>>9071622
Being a good streamer first.

>> No.9071669

trick question nobody cares about the lore especially the streamer themselves

>> No.9072587

Considering I would rather fuck every single one at the bottom instead of the top definitely the latter.

Also Rin is easily hotter than Kronii not even a challenge.

both just end up either being quietly ignored or worked into the irl stories they tell in a half-assed way

Fapable lore > no lore > regular lore

>> No.9081627

>>9071622
Less is more. Let the chuubas develop the lore on their own, instead of creating hype only to underperform.

>> No.9082068

Obviously this >>9071650

But if we are talking about lore by itself, simple is always best. If the streamer is creative, they can build up from their setting like it's a blank canvas.
Having some long, premade narratives about your character mostly adds restrictions to the person's freedom.

>> No.9082149

The answer is somewhere in between. You need a gimmick to work as a hook and serve as a base you can fall back on when stumbling for material. Once you have your audience, they eventually stop coming for the character and more for you.

>> No.9082289

>>9082068
i definitely agree a novel of a premade story is pretty much guaranteeing most people won't be interested in your lore.
but should the chuuba decide to expand as they stream, is there a chance of alienating fans who discover them later in their career that need to catch up?

>> No.9082620

>>9082289
Nah. That ties in with >>9071650 . A good chuuba negates any feeling of alienation as they would build up a fanbase that supports the lore and character for them.
I'm not saying she's the best or anything, but someone like Haachama and her Haato lore is supported by her fanbase.

Overly complex lore cucks the talents by a long shot. See Mumei.
Overly simple lore or no lore is nothing wrong, it's all about their streaming talent after all. Plus it leaves much more space for creativity.
You can add lore to no-lore, you can't really remove lore from a whole page.
Unless you're completely retconning like Nene, but that isn't something you are expected to do.

>> No.9082744

>>9082620
that makes sense. ideally there would be enough separation between lore and normal streaming that you could make the choice to pay attention or not.

9082980

well-developed ("developed" being the keyword) role examples are Haato and Amelia, pointlessly complex or harmfully-complex are IRyS, Kiara (that whole warrior thing which isn't present at all) and, as I already mentioned, Mumei.
It's always the ENs for some reason.

>> No.9083055

Sometimes complex lore is popular, see, Mayuzumi.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mfrB6jzV51A
Sometimes, simple or non existent lore is also popular, like most others. It just depends if you can pull it off. If a chuuba debuts and has a whole essay of a story, and then months later doesn't care about it, it feels like a waste, but it's not like that story existing negatively impacts their current content.

>> No.9083107

>>9082673
Nene got retconned hard, but also super early so it's all good.

>>9082744
And basically yeah. And any lore you do drizzle into the streams would be fun for everyone, even if you don't always "know" what's going on.

I'd like to see some full-lore chuubas, however, just to see if this can work anyhow. By "full-lore" I mean absolute minimum of interaction with viewers (or no at all), lots of non-standard lore videos and theme-fitting games only.

>> No.9083330

>>9083250
Lore doesn't mean not interacting with viewers, wtf?

>> No.9083354

>>9082068
This. Look at Haachamers, she basically made up her own lore.

>> No.9083397

>>9071622
Overly-simple character lore for just one reason, and that is that 90% of the time the talent itself does not only give 0 fucks about their lore but they actively fuck with it, so having an extremely simple lore can at least make it a little less worse

>> No.9083497

>>9083055
mayuzumi is an extreme example. he's an eccentric individual with enough money to throw away that vtubing is just some side hobby to him. he prepared for this stunt like an autist at the expense of his streaming schedule (he doesn't even stream that much to begin with).

It doesn't, but I'd like to see if this can work.
I can't really call a 30k stream being literally flooded "interaction", but that's another topic.

He is an extreme example, but also proof that if you put a lot of effort, complex and autistic lore can be enjoyed by a lot of people, it also involved other people like Masaru and Riri a while ago. It's like following a story that unravels.

yeah JPs are so great at developing their lore

Shion went from a bratty witch to a catgirl
Aqua went from a clumsy maid to a catgirl
Flare went from a half-elf to a catgirl
Rushia went from a necromancer to a catgirl

I know that before, lore was just kind of a jumping off point for them to get comfortable with themselves, but at least add something interesting and fitting for the streamer, like how Pekora became a war criminal.

I prefer lore that is perfectly balanced, as all things should be. It shouldn't be boring but also it shouldn't be over-the-top bullshit like HoloEN2 (or even most of EN1 for that matter.)

>> No.9086342

>>9085561
for JPs, lore really isn't anything more than a costume
and when they abandon those costumes and hardly reference their "lore", then you can hardly say it defines them anymore
at that point, the catears are more integral part of their identity

>> No.9086422
