Thinking about this fic more. I think the real problem with it is that it acknowledges the cliche but doesn't do anything to play with it. It's basically a wink and nod at the fourth wall with none of the flavor.
Honestly, the dryness makes me think this was almost intentional as if it was meant as a parody of the wedgie fics but as far as I can tell this is written by the same guy. So it's kind of like an unfinished gag, where there's setup to something but no pay off.

I appreciate all the input and thoughts to my earlier question. It's nice to know that I'm not the only one who thinks about this stuff. While our fanfics are powerful, inspiring, therapeutic, and fueled by individual and unique motivations, we also have common and unique goals for ourselves as writers.

Whether it's to make something for our oshis, play with dolls, improve our own skills, something we got sucked into and never wanted to stop, or all of the above, we put our all into this. Sometimes those roads end up being paved in a way we never expected when we started. I'm not really sure where my own road may lead, but I think I'll be ready for it.
