I'm going to not hope for much so if something good comes from it I'll be pleasantly surprised. I'm particularly concerned with consistency, since not even the Japanese megacorp could make her motivated to do her job after a year. It is hard to understand why so many go for live2d when it can be both more difficult and less functional than a 3d model. (Titian's setup is a good example; it's technically fixed in place like a live2d, just with a 3d model instead of a PNG. Probably uses something like mocopi.)

There are a few dynamics I can think of though -
Cargo cultism: live2d is 'the done thing', and it's hard for most people to wrap their heads around doing something else just because it may be cheaper and or better.
Market inertia/tech debt: there was a time, around 2016/2017, when taking a few PNGs and hitting them with a warp tool really *was* the most accessible way of creating an live virtual avatar, and companies like anykara or cover were just developers making that kind of software. Granted, that was a short window in time; granted, it has been a long time since that time; never the less, that time also coincided with the time that vtubing started blowing up, so the 'infrastructure' built up around the format.
2d artists: maybe this goes without saying, but most artists draw 2d art. Paper doll animation is a way for them to stick their oar into different markets. And at the same rate, when a putative streamer thinks about what kind of model they want, very often they may think something like, 'I like the style of so-and-so, it would be cool if I could commission them to make a model for me'.
Social status: related to the above, there are very few 3d modelers with notability is popular discourse, but tons of illustrators with notability in various discourses. Making a model for a decently successful virtual streamer is a feather in your cap that looks good on your curriculum vitae and serves as an ongoing form of advertisement. And at the same rate, if you are looking for 'brand power' for a debut, then commissioning a notable for your model is one way to do it.

Those are some things that come to mind anyways.

Yeah, but they all have high-end L2D models. 3/4 of them had Cillia-rigged models.
And the reason it weighs on the streamer's PC is because it's all run through VTS's collab feature, rather than what was used before or what would have to be used for 3D like Discord screensharing or OBS Ninja.

Also Doki was the only one who used a 3D model, because she doesn't have a chibi 2D. So they went from 4 models in VTS to 3 with Doki screensharing.

I can't get good clips of Vei now because she went from being a scrub to being OP. She just did a boss fight where a combat droid has like 3 phases and reinforcements but she just throws a knife, misses, then activates Sandevistan and shreds the boss with her katana in 5 seconds.
