Because watching an archived stream with a quick and dirty translation is superior to not watching it all, or worse, waiting for clipper scum.

Here is what I suspect. The main reason EOPs still exist, even though the problem is solved with three clicks, is because many do not want to break the illusion that JP vtubers are speaking esoteric, hidden knowledge. Well, sometimes they do that, but you get what I mean.

"lots of errors" is a massive understatement. you'll be lucky to find a single sentence that matches what's being said unless it's someone who speaks extremely slowly. there's shitloads of ways to learn japanese. this is not one.

Big assumption that a chat translator is present or active, there. The auto-translate thing is okay maybe 10% of the time but the real issue is it just skips entire minutes of conversation more often than it just makes mistakes. Live translation tools will only get better but we're still some time away from perfection. I look forward to spending my retirement home life watching long-graduated chuubas' vods with perfect subs.

I really enjoy watching JP ESLs like Henya and Kasii trying their hardest to learn English. It's really fun teaching them new words and how to pronounce them, or explaining some element of western culture they don't understand. You also get to see them grow and get better at collabing with English speakers over time, and funny misunderstandings due to the language barrier also make for some great moments.
