I started re-watching chuubas in early 2019 and only then noticed how many had come into existence since the Ai and Luna days. I was watching Dola during that time and eventually started noticing this white fox girl popping up on recommendations every so often. The first one I actually remember watching was this one, though:

My first experience of Hololive was with Gura last year. I was on Discord when a guy mentioned he fell down he rabbit hole and other people were teasing him for it. He mentioned her name and I looked up it up on Youtube and she was actually streaming Minecraft at the time. Checked out the stream and saw a shark playing Minecraft, said wtf and dipped. Went back to discord and joined in on teasing the other guy. Days go by and I see other vtubers take up my recs. I become slightly annoyed with this until one day I see Gura streaming again and decided to check it out again. 30 minutes passed before I realized wtf I was doing. Left. Finally clippers starting popping up in my recs and I see a crazy looking blue rabbit girl. Watched it, fell in love, and never looked back. Such is the life of a faggot

Kizuna AI ended up being the reason I found Hololive. Kizuna was fun to watch at first, but there was a lot lacking with her more current videos. I gradually lost interest and was on and off when watching her. Through youtube suggestions on one of her videos I found a video something along the lines of "various vtubers saying the n word" about a year ago, that's how I found hololive.

>June 2020, DJPK takeover day happens and it's an extremely soul based 24/7 stream of back-to-back hiphop mixes
Then from there I heard https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eeoTbytqFes&feature=emb_logo , where I thought the cute voices were hypnotically cute and wondered what it was from. Then I found Omiya's whole youtube channel and wondered what it was about, found other cool music clips like watame's rap, watched a few clips of Korone and OkaKoro and found the miko "niggaaaa" clip.

Pretty serendipitous, I'd say. The cute wholesomeness of hololive is just what I needed to fill the emptiness of 2020.

Oh yeah, I watched this way earlier too, I just didn't know what hololive was at the time and only recognized oh that was Aqua in that drama. ZeRo actually played cloud a lot and was pretty respectful towards Aqua's gameplay so that was cool to see. Yknow in retrospect, it's hard to believe such an incident happened; the whole hololive community (outside of 4chan) as I know it is extremely supportive and positive, it's hard to believe they would act that immaturely and selfishly about Aqua. Hopefully that means times have changed for the better now.

I think drunk me thought it was ironically funny or something. Anyway, I must have watched some Hololive stuff, again probably ironically, because one morning it was all Youtube was recommending me. I reluctantly watched some of Miko's GTA stuff and the sheer craziness of an anime girl screaming while bazookas were firing and tanks were rolling around was hilariously surreal. I was still watching Kizuna Ai and Siro from time to time when Hololive started gaining traction, so I got occasional Aqua steams recommendations, but I'm a dekinai so I didn't get into them.
But as soon as translation clips started popping up in late 2019, I immediately got into it. First clips I watched were the Neighbors series. Best anime of that season and still one of my favorite Hololive moments.

I had already seen the Miko Niggah clip a long time ago but didnt think it would be worth checking out expecting another Kizuna Ai all japanese thing that streamed once a month. Way later i started seeing a lot of Hololive stuff on /asp as reaction imagines with Miko for All Elite wrestling and they started talking about an English branch coming soon. I check out one random clip and Pekoras ends up in my recommended list playing FO4. I check it out and she seemed so adorable apologizing to all the people that didnt get into the vault with her that i want to see more.I ended with Pekoras trap house in my recommended list and end up sharing it with all my friends and having my expectations of her being a sweet bunnygirl crushed.

Around that time EN had just come out and I just hopped in there just in time for Ames debut. Gura ended up being my favorite but I ended up liking all of them and slowly Hololive became my main source of entertainment

I was on the /poeg/ Path of Exile general over at /vg/ and they started simping for Gura, I knew of Kizuna Ai, I checked out Gura when she had like 10 videos, decided it was pointless to enjoy her if all she does is play zoomer cringe, and moved on.

Later, I randomly got recommended a video of when Pekora met Moona around the time that happened, and Youtube kinda never stopped feeding me recommendations after that.

Once I heard Pekora's voice, my voice fetishism kicked into high gear and I was very drawn to Hololive (Subaru's probably the closest I have to an Oshi because her voice has a cleansing effect on me for some reason, comparable to an iced tea on a hot day).

Then I realized oh shit these people are legitimately interesting, and that's when it became an actual interest... except I'm quarantining since February so I have nothing better to do other than dig deeper into this.

miko niggah. thought it was neat there were more vtubers since kizuna, kaguya, siro, akari. but didn't look into it.

matsuri animal crossing turnips. found it really funny and sound a number of clips. wish they were still up, i would save them if they were here now. matsuri wolf of wall street is where i'd put the starting line. there was also this edit of some classic live action comedy sauna scene where each person entering is more powerful than the last, with matsuri entering last, and pretty sure pekora being second last because i was like "who is that blue bunny that's the most powerful after matsuri?". them there was mario kart "I AM HOLOLIVE!" which is the first time i remember hearing about a vtuber organization of any kind. shortly after would hear it again in some fubuki clip where she said "hororaibuuuuu" in the background. would click on matsuri and fubuki clips when they appeared after this.

the among us collabs were the final entry, thereafter solidified with pekora minecraft then minecraft in general. these made hololive a persistent existence in my mind, "what are they up to lately" and not just passing entertainment. i really like seeing friends work together and build things over time. anime girls being funny and playing videogames alone is nice, this however made it special.
