Because it makes them feel like they're not too far off from society. It's one thing to be a part of society and wanting to escape it - these gilded-spooned babies haven't experienced that and thusly feel like they're missing out on something.

Imagine it from their POV. There's a common thing that everyone normal has done -> the worst part about it is really needing to secure funding while attending, if you don't need to do that then it's easy mode -> They have money to burn -> They don't want to be left out -> Ergo, do the easy thing and go to college.

Also, I imagine a part of it being a way to deflect how easy they've had it? They basically won the lottery and now feel the need to justify they didn't just get lucky. Going to college is just one thing to prove it wasn't just "luck", by graduating it proves that they were always destined to do something good and be rewarded for it - which is silly because their success was all just luck and they're just wasting their time not embracing that blessing. In fact, their larping of the education system makes them even more of a sham than anything else. They're just like all the other rich kids who don't need to worry about failing, all they do is distort the GPA scale.
