There's tiers to this, being live live is obviously preferred, but there are acceptable compromises. FWMC for example talked more than once how hard it was to sing a part of the song on rhythm instead of trying to match the rhythm of the dance. That's a big part of what makes live performances impressive, even if the quality of the singing suffers compared to a recording. Singing and dancing at the same time is NOT easy. Suisei does live live but she's basically swaying in place for the most time for that reason.
Recorded but capturing both singing and dancing at once and in one take is still REALLY impressive, more than live dancing with recorded singing or live singing with recorded dancing, but we can't know that because of this lack of transparency. Wish they could just tell us.

But much like Aqua had recorded guest parts and then live solo for her graduation (and explicitly said so herself, wish EN would do this), they could have prerecorded units and live solos. Or leave it up to the individual talents so the ones who can't sing don't embarrass themselves too much.
I personally don't care either way, I care more about the performance being raw than whether or not it's happening now. Watching recordings for concerts is fun too, what isn't as fun is watching an MV where the band pretends they're playing in a concert.

Personally I think they should have waited, gotten 1 million first by constantly streaming, which I think they would have uninterrupted, then moved to Japan, also with a better fleshed out plan.
