Well no. Clippers for better or worse have become a vital part of the vtuber ecosystem especially for large companies like Cover.
They take the most entertaining parts of streams and then spread it in a more accessible easy to consume format. People are a lot more likely to watch a five minute clip than sit through a whole stream at least initially. People watch a bunch of clips of a vtuber they might decide to start watching streams, donate, etc.
They're basically free advertising especially once the clipper themselves gets a decent spot in the youtube algorithm. Once they're at that spot the clipper clipping someone can actually boost their viewership by bringing attention to them.
Ollie courted clippers to a considerable extent, making her existence known to them so they'd clip her and spread awareness of her existence to their audiences.

Some vtubers also run their own clipping channels focusing entirely on themselves. For instance Snuffy runs the Daily Dose of Snuffy channel. She claims its a fan channel but nope. Does it herself.
In this context they focus more on the gateway drug element of clips.

Clippers ain't going anywhere.

Its somewhat inevitable that when a clipper gets big in the algorithm that they're going to develop their own brand.
This is a good and bad thing for the ones they're clipping. Since being clipped by a well known clipper is worth a lot more than being clipped by literally who.
But same time they'll be getting to the point where they might be able to become competition and you put them there.

It's no coincidence that Soda is trying to become a vtuber now. But same time its worth noting. Soda isn't doing so hot in terms of their spot in the youtube algorithm, even if you're subbed to them their videos aren't cropping up as much as they used to. Vtubers aren't courting Soda anymore and instead are either focusing on other clippers (cooksie for instance), running their own clip channels (alone or as a group) or just not courting clippers at all as they're at a point where if you stream the clippers will come.
Basically this is Sodas last chance for continuing relevance and views.
