If you've payed attention to some of the other holos' interactions with her lately (particularly the few that she's had since the Xbox collab), it's clear quite a few are trying to reach out to help her set things straight -- including all of gokisei -- but it's not going to be easy for them to help until she starts escaping the cycle of guilt and fear of letting others down. If you've ever experienced this cycle, you'd know what an absolute hell it can be to even take the first step out.

Pretty much sums up the point. Lamy says she wants to be closer to the real Polka as the real Lamy, but she's being distant. Polka has also said she wants to be closer to Lamy and others in the same way, but has admitted she also feels insecure and has a lot of guilt toward the times she let down gokisei in the large collabs they've had. She seems to be avoiding any commitments with them until she feels like she fixes the perceived flaws at the root of all this. She's not necessarily avoiding the problem, but is definitely going about fixing it alone in all the wrong ways. Instead of avoiding them, I think she should be working to collab with them much more in small ways at first, then work up to larger ways. That will help slowly alleviate her fear and guilt even if she messes up a few times along the way. See PolFlare -- any stream involving them has been consistently great because she's one of the few holos she feels she can actually lean on and be comfortable around. It may require her to evolve who "Polka" is a little to get over some of the insecurities she has over the criticism she's gotten from non-fan viewers, but I don't think doing that would even faze fans in the slightest since the overwhelming consensus from omaruza is "we sincerely just want you to be happy and enjoy what you do, whatever that is."

But what's weird is that at her core "Polka" isn't terribly different from her roommate or past life outside a slightly elevated genki demeanor, at least not compared to a few of the other holos who put effort into changing their voice or personalities to fit their character. When she's alone or with Flare, she's far more natural, but you can definitely tell when she artificially dials up the energy and zaniness of her character as Polka in bigger or unfamiliar collabs (like the summer festival, which ended up with her drinking alone for a while until Coco and others came to the rescue). Really rings true to what Lamy said.

I just want some parasocial GFE from someone who means it. Polka streams the least out of her generation and seems to actively be independent outside of Hololive, meaning as much as she may go on about codependency in her member streams she’s ultimately got a lot going for her outside of serving her fanbase. Non-Holo friends, housemates, side jobs, lots of money. Not to imply it’s impossible to be depressed when you have these things, but she has a lot to be thankful for and her life wouldn’t be over if Hololive disappeared overnight one day.

Contrast that with someone like Watame (not to imply she’s GFE focused) who consistently streams every day and for long hours, openly cries to her viewers and thanks them profusely every stream, to the point of feeling guilty not being able to give back. She openly exhibits symptoms of being heavily emotionally dependent on streaming and chatting, to the point of spending the majority of her free time with her fans. Whereas Polka streams, what, 10-20 hours a week on average, some days not streaming at all? Yet she claims to be codependent on her members.

I’m not saying I know everything about Polka, but her dependency is suspect. Feel free to argue otherwise because I still haven’t quite figured her out.

I share your worries, but for a different reason. Getting emotional, whether genuine or fake, is part of the package for chubas. However, once you start seeing any activity as an annoying chore that you are forced to do, the odds of you either abandoning or quitting that activity sometime soon are pretty high. She probably needs one of her ideas to be a major success to ride the wave again, but given how she ends up half-assing pretty much everything for a while now, the chances for that are getting lower as we speak.

My take is that polka needs the validation of strangers, because the validation of friends/family would be biased and "not truthful". She'll hook onto one flaw and ignore every positive trait we list out. While I enjoy both LoP and song covers, it's part what I've been talking about regarding burning out: she clearly has some trouble livestreaming as Polka. Song covers are basically her favorite thing to do anyway and it doesn't involve playing a character; Legend of Polka is a scripted/mild improv recording, regardless of whether she comes up with ideas herself or hired someone to write stuff for her; it does require to stay in-character but that's acting out skits while being focused on it, completely different thing.

But when it comes to streaming proper, she has moved away from experimenting, streaming less with much less variety now, and she herself admitted on multiple occasions that minecraft is basically "have to stream but don't want to put effort". Instead of streaming, she'd rather make thumbnails, play minecraft offstream for hours on end, focus on roomie business or surf twitter in-depth trying to fish out shitty comments about herself.

Also, after her "vacation" she said something along the lines of not being able to get into the right mindset to solo stream during it. Assuming that's true and not bullshitting her way trying to cover for something, that just proves my suspicions further. I don't know if it's her menhera acting up, side projects being more interesting, health issues or just being a lazy shit outside of recordings, the livestreaming part of Polka is gradually getting shelved further and further.

It probably has to do with something Lamy mentioned in a zatsudon months ago. That Polka has an "on" and and "off" switch, and while her member only streams are one of the few things that she's not 100% "on" for even those she's still mostly "on" for. When you live like this with an increasing amount of your life being "on" it gets exhausting and it just makes you want to get to that off state again even quicker.

So my hypothesis is that Polka just has a fundamentally unhealthy way to approaching work. It's not something that will likely ever change as it's kind of core to her personality.
