Btw, for people who argued about neopets being gacha/nft for kids back there. A bit of offtopic, but interesting insight of what used to be P2W in the old times.

I used to moderate a russian/ukrainian MMO in 2006, the whales in that shit unironically used to dump thousands of dollars to have custom gear for P2W purposes.

And it wasn't even the worst case. The Combats, for example, had whales easily dumping in 10000+ euros, constantly.

The "modern" version of Runescape (aka RS3) has cosmetic items called partyhats that are worth over $20,000 USD at the moment and that price only goes up higher year by year. While I was sad about Gunz the Duel closing, the Gunster closing due to rampant cheating was a punch in the gut, because I used to played that with my classmate even more than Gunz.

I didn't play Ragnarok, but watching Voyage Century slowly going to shit since they've got Vocational Level expansion (and dragon gunboats as well) was not pleasant AT ALL.
Made doubly painful because I used to be a fan of Sea Dogs series and it was the closest that I'd get to having a MMO version of it.

I played Gunz International since even before I owned a PC, in internet club. Then moved to Ijji when I've got a PC and Internet.

Easily best time for MMO, imo:
1) Web-based games, RPG (like AQ) and non-RPG, e.g. Ogame
2) Classic Runescape
3) Mu Online fad (even in Eastern Europe we used to have hundreds of private servers for that shit)
4) Ijji had Gunz, and other projects, even something as "boring" as Soldier Front had SOUL
5) Ultima Online and similar.
6) Voyage Century.
7) Lineage 2, Ragnarok, some other games.
8) WoW

They just don't do online games like they used to. And no way the communities would be as authentic on any subreddit as they used to be in forums.
