I don't think they have to "move" but I agree that if they're to be discussed it should be elsewhere unless they're occasionally posting here.
Personally I don't even self-advertise here because I was already vtubing well before I found asp and I genuinely just want to help people get started when they need it or to help with other technical issues.

But in the time I've been here it feels like people show up less and that's probably a good thing given how this place has shifted from being an aspiring vtuber to being more about obssessing over people just trying to get into something new to them.
Which then gives a completely different atmopshere and image of what to expect here.

I've seen aspies posting wishing to be sexpested and I don't know if it needs to be said but that isn't the point of these threads, these threads shouldn't be used as some weird part of your exhibitionism kink.

Entirely depends on what is vtubing for you? Do you view it as a Japanese idol thing and want to grow in that sense? Because from what I've seen here, people just stream like fleshstreamers but with anime avatar instead of face cam.

If you have to exaggerate some parts of yourself.

A good model is irelevant as most people who will watch are going to be lurkers who have you open in the bg while they're doing things.
A good mic however is detrimental.
Good audio balancing is important as well because nobody is trying to tab back over and adjust your volume every 15 minutes because it's drastically shifted one way or the other.

I think theming is a very important part of vtubing. Your character should have an identity, it doesn't have to be elaborate lore nor do you have to play up any kind of role to make it work.
You do need visual elements of your stream to reflect the ideas behind your character though.
Every little bit counts and will be appreciated.

Beyond that, be less antisocial and network with people by interacting, don't be so heavy handed in letting your presence be known if you get overlooked just move on to other people don't let it get to you.

Have any streamers/riggers here gone off the beaten path when it comes to software? Inochi2D seems to tick a lot of boxes for a free replacement for Live2D. Someone last thread mentioned Mixamo in conjunction with Vroid models. There's TITS and SAMMI for scripting and chat interaction. There's a ton of tooling out there but I keep seeing people go for expensive options or commissions.

oh hey that was me. though that option is more for making fun little videos to post to twitter. I'm not too knowledgeable on l2d stuff but as for 3d/vroid options you have vnyan, which is great for facial capture but bad for hand tracking, though it does allow for some of the things you can find in TITS. There's vseeface which has really nice face tracking but you need seperate (decently expensive) hardware to capture hand tracking, though it is the best I've seen. and finally warudo along with virtualmotioncapture, thats what I currently use and it does well! though the hand tracking is relatively slow so quick motions aren't picked up accurately.

vnyan is free

warudo is free with vmc having a 1.99 a month fee

vseeface is free but the leapmotion controller for hand tracking is $219

most programs like tits are made with either vseeface or vtube studio in mind

its not necessary, I use my webcam for hand tracking and can verify it works, but slow. I talk with my hands a lot and that includes occasional quick motions that aren't fully captured. leapmotion is the first I've seen able to keep up with snappier motions. though I will look more into warudo and vmc to see if I can tweak how the arms move on my model.
