Ask anyone on the street to associate an animal with the concept of chaos, and very few are going to say "rat" - I've never heard that association my entire fucking life. You're going to get things like monkey, tasmanian devil, shark etc. You also know what is literally a common trickster deity in Japanese folklore? Kitsune - foxes. That was the super easy obvious answer, and would have been an instant crowd pleaser with antoher foxgirl - but they apparently weren't quite thinking of 'trickster'.I mean personally, if I was designing this one, I would have thought of chaos as in numerical probabilities, and going off that do a dice / playing card motif, but whatever, we've got a rat.
Also, consider that Cover asks mamas and papas to do the designs and may not necessaily have strict exacting guidance for them - and the artist they picked may in fact be wise to /vt/, because the Japanese actually overall do pay attention to here as well, and thought "haha I'm gonna do a rat" and Cover itself either doesn't realize it or knows but doesn't mind.
