How important is it to you that a Vtuber sticks to their character lore?
For example, Gundou Mirei attracted quite a bit of hate when she flippantly stated in a stream that she wasn't ACTUALLY a teacher despite that being her character setting. Would that sort of thing bother you, or is it a non-issue?

That sums it up decently well.
I like how Selen seems to really enjoy leaning into her keyfabe to the point where I wonder if she didn't explicitly request that particular character and design.

I feel like a part of Gundou Mirei's appeal WAS the teacher shtick. Especially since she'd told stories about teaching and her students before revealing she was lying about it, which invalidates the impression you got about her from those stories.
But aside from cases like that, I don't really care. If Kiara showed up to her next stream dropping the whole KFP and chicken shtick, sure, it'd be pretty jarring, but I personally wouldn't feel upset because it's not part of the appeal for me; it's just something that comes as an extra. I'm aware that I could've used a better example than Kiara, but I couldn't really come up with a better one since she's the only VTuber I watch who leans into her character lore.

Good thing I unsubscribed from her long ago then. The only thing she is for certain is a pathological liar.

Depends I guess. I like lore and like chuubas sticking to it if they already invested in it. If mayuzumi for example would drop his act I would watch alot less. Then again if they never took it all that seriously I wouldn't care to much if they break it.

Honestly taking the LARP seriously is pretty fucking cringey to me and anybody who doesn't just use an overdone version of it for fourth wall shattered skits and default to a normal(maybe more uptempo) personality filters me hard
I genuinely like this medium because it's gatekept to a certain range of personalities IRL due to it being niche and due to its particular niche. If vtubers were more popular with normalfags when I started watching them I don't think I would've started watching them.
Literally just IMO, though. It's also why I don't particularly care if a vtuber has an active 3D streaming account, or just does both like Norio. But also if they don't nbd, just want to feel like Ican understand the person talking at me, or feel like I might be able to over time.

The lore on their character bio such as gura being from atlantis? 0% I always thought that it was just a funny meme that comes up in jokes, not something that the streamer actually pretends on stream.
But the fake personnality and actual "lore" that they build over the streams have to be consistent 100%. all streamers tell fake stories, feign interests about topics, manifacture their personnality, it's the brand and the product that they sell to the viewers so they have to stick to it
Like festival creating the lore of not being in a relationship for years and being a dyke then being found out with a bf, it breaks the illusion and makes things weird

>> No.7937661

it depends, there are some vtubers that their characters plays a huge place in ther personality (pekora, watame, okayu) and others that are sustained only by their personality (nene, miko, haato). if pekora announces tomorrow that she is no longer a rabbit but a parrot, everyone would go crazy, but now if nenechi announces that she is no longer an isekai idol but a half gyoza half human, no one will give a fuck and watch her like always

Its a non issue, but I like when they integrate their presentation with their character. Similar to how Mori does in her songs

>> No.7938896

>>7938127
this is really a cool thing, but i feel it becomes exhausting and limiting over the time, i don't think Mori likes writing songs always related with his character. dropping the act a bit under these circumstances every now and then must be nice

>> No.7939686

>>7928184
I imagine most people find it difficult to keep up an act for extended periods of time, especially in streaming where you have to juggle the act and interact with your viewers. Blending a bit of your own personality in there probably lessens the load as you'll be more comfortable by just streaming as yourself as opposed to whatever character you were assigned.

character lore is stupid and i don't need it. i like cool character concepts and designs but all the lore shit that vtubers do for their debut is dumb as shit.[

When did she say she’s not a teacher? I don’t know much about her so I’m curious. That makes me wonder about the story where she said her students found her channel now.

You tell me.
>Astel
Hyperactive karaoke and apex addict with imposter syndrome, nowhere related to his bio.
>3rd gen
All of them dropped their acts with the exception of Pekora (who has started to do so earlier this year) after their 1st anniversary.
>Ame
Bri'sh accent wasn't cutting it so she dropped it immediately after debut. the whole time traveler lore gig wasn't originally intended but she went on with it regardless since it worked wonders for her to stay afloat, along with her devotion to always reinvent herself that is.
>Nene
Similar case as with Ame regarding accent and lore (though in Nene's case she had to go under a redesign).

But this is besides the point that matters to OP.

>>7928184
I personally don't mind it much if the person behind the avatar doesn't want to stick to his/her role forever, at some point it's meant to break. Problem would rise however if the person behind the avatar would take advantage of it.

For instance, picture a Vtuber who's portrayed in her bio/lore as a homeless person, a sexy hobo at it, whatever, she makes a ton of money on SCs with this motto, and at one point she breaks her acting by mentioning traits that are exclusive to wealthy men, or anything in particular regarding with the rich, she gets called out as a fraud everywhere and breaks her character admitting not being a hobo as a result.

Who would you react to it? I'd be pissed if I threw money at her.
